Lone Star Tick (Ambylomma americanum)

…a species of hard tick that is widespread throughout the eastern United States and parts of Mexico. This species is common in wooded areas, mostly with thick underbrush and large trees. Like other ticks A.americanum is a parasite of mammals and can transmit a myriad of diseases to its host, however it is not responsible for Lyme disease (B.burdgorferi). The characteristic white ‘star’ is only found on females males instead have a black pattern on their back.
