Poem #18 (infinity)

infinite means it has no limit but nowadays people are quick to say i love you to infinity & beyond & like buzz light year they go nowhere just automated voices saying emotionless promises & i’m beginning to wonder if infinite really does have a limit does it only last up until the second before the first fight when the veil of love is dropped & the hate beneath revealed infinity now means two months, five hours, eighteen minutes & twenty seconds since your first shared smile from the opposite sides of a busy car park but it’s not just infinity it’s also forever & eternally it’s a marriage vow that states until death do us part that ended after the first rough patch five years in if you can’t stand permanence build a sandcastle on the shore & get married there when the tide comes in it will wash away your marriage the salt will erode your wasted promises & there won’t be any evidence of something that never was to begin with
