Luca Bellett experimentation
Dr.Martens Final Outcome
Initial Dr.Martens Final Outcome
This is my intial Dr.Martens Zine outcome. There was some of the design which could have been improved as the colour/typography and the composition wasn't right and didn't flow well with the overall image.
Lucas Bellett is a not well known argentinian artist. He is currently living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His art work ranges from Illustration, Digital Art and Design. His work are very modern and has a pop art feel to them with the use of halftorn pattern and bold colours. I chose to study Lucas Bellett because his work will be able to influence my Dr.Martens zine design and I like his style of work, as its very contemporary. Similarly to Jamie Reid, Bellett uses different mediums, such as magazine cutouts and digital manipulation. A majority of his work contains one main subject which is placed at the centre with just an accompaniment of typography. Furthermore Bellett uses limited colours which helps to create balance and simplicity into his chaotic work. In this set of images he uses slogans to accompany the imagery which helps to tell the story behind the work. For example the first image with 'IT'S ALL COMING BACK NOW' refers to the war and this is further conveyed with the use of the planes which is located at the top right of the work. I will use Bellets techniques and his style of work into my own zine with the use of typography being incorporated with images to tell a story/
Doc Martens Inspiration
Final Outcome Experimentation
For this experimentation I was experimenting with the layout and design of what my final zine could look like. With where in the zine the images are placed and how they are put together, in order for it to capture the viewers attention and so that they don't get bored of it, as you don't want to see similar imagery placed next to each other again and again.
Zine Experimentation
For this experimentation I wanted to play around with the InDesign programme and also creating zines. In this experimentation I incorporated typography with some of the images that I have taken for this topic. I wanted to incorporate the colour of the Boots with the colour of the typography so it shows links to what the zine is about.

Regular Teen
Michael Doc Martens
For this photoshoot I was trying to convey Dr.Martens being worn by a 'Regular Teen' and not by a skinhead, as this is the 21st century and you don't see skin heads wearing Dr.Martens these days. I also wanted to convey a contemporary feel to it and also a fashion side.
Viva la England
Becka Doc Martens
The idea behind this photoshoot is a rock chick wearing Dr.Martens boots and showcasing it in her own style. Similarly to the 'Regular Teen' photoshoot I decided to make the model wear a leather jacket, which symbolizes the skinheads as they wore leather jackets.

Logo Research
Hollister is a sister brand of Abercrombie & Fitch. They sell similar clothes to Abercrombie, offering a cheaper price with the similar quality. They used grey and maroon as their main colors, this gives a simplistic & clean look. The logo has long & vertical shapes. The logo gives a modern vibe about it. The seagull represents the sea and Hollister originated from California and California is next to the sea so there are a lot of seagulls around. This could be their trademark
When I first saw this logo I was really drawn to it. The simplicity of the logo gives a modern look and the presence of neutral colors allows it to be less confusing and quite straight to the point although it isn’t completely obvious what the logo is representing. This is the unique thing that this logo possess, the fact that it doesn’t tell us what the logo is representing and gives leaves the viewer curious. Furthermore the logo is quite powerful especially the strength of the black on the white background.
