do you guys realize that…the videos and articles about the “good cops” who are “protesting” are propaganda designed to make you think “not all cops are bad”? do you realize that when the chief of police of flint said “let’s not make this a protest, let’s make it a parade,” he was successfully de-escalating the situation and dissolving the protest?
the police force has been corrupt since long before you and i were born. people don’t become cops to protect and serve, they become cops to feel strong and to use their strength against others. you are falling for propaganda if you believe that white men kneeling a la colin kaepernick mean the cops you see firing rubber bullets and batoning people are the exception to the rule.
all cops are bastards. full stop.
I disagree and you can call me a “bootlicker” all you want. I think what we saw from the sheriff of Genessee County (he was not the chief of police of Flint) is what we should expect from all law enforcement. Too often, especially during these protests, we’re seeing police and other law enforcement agencies showing up in full riot gear and begin escalating these situations and instigating retaliation. What Sheriff Swanson and Police Chief Shields from Atlanta did was go out into the people, take off their protective equipment and talk to the protestors as people. These protestors are screaming and demanding to be heard and Swanson and Shields went out and listened to them. I don’t agree with Swanson’s comment “let’s not make this a protest, let’s make it a parade” but I also don’t think his comment actually changed the intention or the meaning of the protest. Those people were still able to exercise their right to assemble and protest and the police ensured that they did so in a way that did not gain the city notoriety for destruction and looting as has happened in many major cities over the past week. To say “all cops are bastards. full stop.” shits on the efforts of any cop, especially the ones of color who are trying to be a positive change in their own backyards. Your steadfast beliefs prime you to never acknowledge a change if/when it happens.
