Jamie dutton looks good with salt and pepper hair; pass it on to him 😅
You are exactly right! I love to see him getting that aged look to him - in part because it means that he's surviving and that's more than I expected of him a lot of the time, given everything he's been through. The man deserves better.
You alone are enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody.

Alex woke up dazed on the sofa, her laptop half open on the end table by her head. She didn't remember putting it there though. Nor did she remember putting the blanket over herself. It was late though and there was a dim light on at the end of the hall. Jamie must have come home. Slowly getting up, she meandered down the hall towards his study, still half asleep, eyes having a hard time staying open. She rubbed at them just enough to see that the clock in the hall read quarter past two. Opening the door slowly, she leaned against the doorframe for balance as she watched him for a few long seconds, not being shy in her twilight state about taking him in. "Come to bed?" She murmured, voice husky and heavy when he finally looked up at her.
Jamie had managed to drag himself in all too late once again. He wasn't surprised to find that Alex had dozed off at some point before he'd arrived, he softly smiled to himself as he stood back for a second to appreciate how at peace she looked when she was sleeping. He didn't get to see that side of her often enough, he thought. Sliding his jacket off and then his shoes, he placed them where they belonged before he moved to take her laptop from her lap. He closed the top just slightly, but not enough to completely discard any work she may have had in production. He grabbed the blanket from the back of the couch, draping it over her and softly kissing her head before placing her computer on the end table nearest her and quietly making his way down the hall to the study. In typical fashion, there was still more work to be done - there was always more to be done. He wasn't sure just how long he was working in there before the sound of her voice drew his eyes upward, "Hey..." he said softly, offering a cornered smile. "Yeah, let's go..." He quickly saved his work, closing the program in front of him and setting the computer to sleep before rising from his chair, crossing the room to greet his woman and kiss her tenderly, "I missed you today."

“Yes, exactly.” she smiled, but quickly added, “I’m here for a conference though. I promise I didn’t come here to hound you for an interview,” she chuckled. Lois preferred to chase stories or stumble upon them. Sitting at a conference center and giving the occasional interview to the speaker was good work but didn’t exactly provide a thrill to her. While she indeed would keep her word about no interview, his story was fascinating. At the very least, she’d love to meet the man behind that mystery.
“I suppose it’s kismet you’d be in the first coffee place I decided to get my fix for,” she joked. As they handed him his coffee, she quickly took out her wallet. “Please, allow me.” An extra bonus was in it for her, if he allowed it–she wouldn’t have to make the line again for her own coffee. She could be nice, and selfish right? “I’d love to pick your brain for a few minutes if you’ve got the time. Conference doesn’t start till another hour or so.”
“I’m afraid I wouldn’t be a very interesting subject, even if you had.” David had been through the classes and the training - public speaking, what he could and could not say or perhaps rather it was a case of what he should and should not say. David had never been one to have concern for the rules, after all. Despite all of his training, he still often found himself dreading the idea of having to give an interview or discuss matters pertaining to his cases with those outside of them. “Please, you don’t need to do -” before he could even finish his sentence, she was handing over the payment for his coffee and now suddenly, he knew whatever it was that she was fixing to ask him for next, was already hers.
“Thank you, that was kind.” He offered a soft smile, an emotion that was rare to see on the face of the detective. The warmth of the cup in his hand brought a sense of comfort to him, or perhaps ease was the better word. “Uh...” the idea of letting her pick his brain was a bit nerve wrecking, but declining the request seemed rather inconsiderate. He had often been told that he needed to work on his people skills, perhaps this was an opportunity to start. “Sure, I’ve got nowhere to be this exact moment.” He agreed, giving a soft nod.

“I didn’t have no damn heart attack.” Kayce insisted with a heavy sigh and slight roll of his eyes - he was much too young for that, so he thought. Turns out that when you’re a Dutton, there was no such thing as ‘too young.’ And with his obvious inability to take proper care of himself resulting in massively high blood pressure, he couldn’t be all too surprised now, could he? He raised a brow at the mention of where Tate was, currently. “Chicks? Where the hell are we going to put chickens?” He was used to raising cattle, breaking horses but somehow chickens were far out of his comfort zone. “You’re fussing.” He sighed once again as he watched her reach for the water, offering him the straw to sip from.
“I don’t want that. I want to get the hell out of here.” Kayce told her just as he looked up in time to catch sight of the nurse stepping through the doors, a scowl on her face. “Now I really want to get the hell out of here, because that is not the face of a woman I want responsible for my life.” He mumbled softly to only Alex, giving her a soft grin and hoping to lighten the obviously heavy mood of the moment they were in. “There’s work to be done and I ain’t dead yet, I’ll take a day off when that moment comes, you have my word.”

“Well if it ain’t the riff raff of Darby County,” she commented playfully at Axel as she stepped out of her jeep. “Fancy running into you here.” She stuffed the keys in her pocket. “I was gonna do a few rounds at the gun range, but seeing as how you’re here, maybe we make our own challenges like we used to?” She looked over at the bar, and then to him. “We can even mix it up with a twelve pack if you don’t have plans.” she joked. With all her flying she didn’t get to spend as much time with her buddies as she wanted to, so when she had an opportunity she jumped at it.
Axel leaned over the tailgate of the old shit beater truck he was driving these days, cigarette hanging from his lips and sunglasses covering eyes that were still much too sensitive to light from the night before. He was staring off at a couple of the locals, trying to figure out just what in the hell it was they were doing in that parking lot when he’d heard an all too familiar voice call out to him. “Well, I’ll be damned... if it ain’t Montana’s finest wing-woman.” He snickered softly, “Don’t go threatening me with a good time, now. I think we both know I can still drink your ass under the table.” He grinned, “Now, when have you ever known me to go and make something like plans? You know I don’t have the capacity of mind to follow through.”

I have actually managed to get a few writing things done over the last few days, here and there when I’ve had a minute. It is in no way close to the capacity in which I was writing before because there is no way my schedule will allow for that. I have had some major changes in my personal life and sadly that means that I cannot guarantee any real time to be spent here on Tumblr, all I can offer is a spotty burst of activity here or there and that very slowly but surely, I’ll get around to things. As always, I appreciate the patience during this incredibly busy season in my career.

WHEN SOMEONE SAID IT WAS GOING TO BE OKAY, usually the exact opposite occurred. the detective was being reckless, but he already knew that. eyebrows furrow together in agitation. ‘david, please don’t do this..’ for a moment the blonde melts against his sweet embrace, but it isn’t long before she’s being dragged back into the bitter reality of the significant danger he was about to face. ‘you’re walking straight into a trap..’ it was just like him to ignore the signs, eager to close the case, too eager & not thinking clearly. she reaches out to grab hold of the male’s arm before he can walk away. ‘look at me. if you care about me at all, you’ll stay here & sleep on it. regroup tomorrow.’ the desperation in cerulean hues couldn’t be any more evident. ‘i swear to god — if anything were to happen to you..’ it wasn’t something she could ponder over for too long without feeling as though her soul was being ripped right out of her body — too painful, too empty. ‘you’re being irrational, baby..’ a gentle hand reaches out to cup his cheek, eyes intently studying him. one thing her father always taught her was to never make decisions in the heat of the moment. always study the situation from every possible angle before constructing your next move. strategic was a good word to describe john dutton. but david? david was willing to go in guns blazing & hope for the best, which frankly scared the hell out of her.
It was the one thing that the man hadn’t accounted for when he’d chosen this life and this career - having something to come back to. He’d never had to consider it before, it had always been so easy to put himself out there and take the risk with his own life. After all, he had no family, no one to miss him, if the job took his life then at least he’d have died for something worthy. That was until he’d met her. “Hey, it’s going to be okay...” he said the words again, hoping that maybe this time, he could make her believe them. Ultimately, he knew better - but it didn’t hurt to try, anyway. “You know that’s not fair. You are the only thing that I care about, Scarlett. But if I don’t do this, you’ll be in danger. And so will your family, and that is a risk that I’m not willing to gamble with.” He wasn’t sure how he would make her understand, or if he ever could - but as desperate as she was to keep him safe, he was even more desperate to keep her safe. “Nothing is going to happen to me. Go run yourself a warm bath, have a glass of wine, and I’ll be back before you know it...” he kept his tone even, doing his very best to reassure her that everything would be okay, even if there was a chance it wouldn’t. “Scarlett, look... trust me, please. If you never do another thing for me in this lifetime, do this... trust me.”
“This is going to hurt, but it will help you.” Alex to jamie
Jamie hadn't expected that when he and Alex had returned from their date, that they would find his house in the midst of being ransacked. No more had he expected that together, they'd have to fend off the men who sought to destroy his home, the only one that had ever truly been his own. The struggle had left a deep gaping wound in his body but he couldn't risk word getting out about what had happened, not before he had time to handle it. Any publicity at this point was bad publicity and it was a risk he wasn't willing to drag Alex into. "It's okay... I can handle the pain." He assured her, giving her knee a soft squeeze, "go on."
“I wasn’t –… Your doctors weren’t sure you’d wake up.” Jo to Dean
"And you listened to them?" Dean's voice was heavy and groggy as he slowly rolled his head to the side, gazing at Jo through blurred vision and half opened eyes. "Now, that doesn't sound like the Jo that I know." He winked, working up his best half grin. He knew it was bad by the concern that was etched on her face and the way she seemed genuinely surprised that he'd regained consciousness. "I'll try not to take too much offense to knowing that you listen to someone else, but never to me." His best offer at comfort was always some form of humor, "It's okay, Jo. You're not getting rid of me that easily."

Hi. Just a note to say you are missed and i hope youre doing swell! ♥ Glad to always find little appearances of you on the dash!
Aww, thank you so much! I have been insanely busy, I just wrapped up with a large scale horse show this weekend and I wanted to pop in and see what I've been missing. I'm making it a point to set aside some time this week to put in some work here that consists of more than just memes. <3 I hope you're well, also!
(10 years ago) Alex plopped her arms down on the front desk of the police reception desk. "I'm looking for the Cute Rookie that arrested me at the protest last night even though I was wearing a press badge." This could have sounded threatening if she didn't sound utterly amused by the entire thing. It radiated in her voice and body language. Plus...so was the local nuisance to the station. It wasn't as if she was mean or even disrespectful to local law enforcement. She just seemed utterly unconcerned with the rules half the time. It made it so that she was often "in the wrong place at the wrong time" as she justified it.
She leaned into the cop over the desk slightly. "I think I might have flustered the poor guy." She confessed even though the thought made her smile wider. "I should probably apologize."
The receptionist behind the front desk seemed to be confused as they looked on at Alex, trying to process what it is that she was saying. "The rookie? Ma'am, are you sure that it was an officer from our department? We don't have any rookies." The man began to defend as David listened from around the corner, instantly recognizing the voice. "You've got to be fucking kidding me..." he muttered to himself as he stepped away from the coffee station, rounding the corner and sighing heavily as he stepped into view.
"A press badge doesn't give you permission to be well beyond the permitted lines or to put yourself or other people in danger." God, what was it with this girl? "And rest assured, you didn't fluster me. I don't need your apology. What I need is for you to stop putting yourself in the middle of situations that you shouldn't be involved with. As we discussed last night, this isn't the first time that an arrest has been placed on your record. You could at least pretend to have some self preservation abilities," he huffed.
"Don't look at me like that" Erin to Adam
Adam playfully raised his hands in surrender, "I wasn't looking at you like anything." He chuckled, letting his arms fall back down after a minute. "But seriously, though. Come on, you've got to give me something. You and Jay are killing me." The lack of romantic affection in Adam's life had left him living vicariously through his co-workers, "I know something is different between you two. I see it. Hell, we all see it. Come on, Erin. Please?" He begged, giving her his best puppy eyes.
