Books. And a touch of Love.

Hello :) This is where I write about what I'm reading and share it with the entirety of tumblr. Since starting college, I have bought books and not had the time to read them, allowing them to stack up on my (tiny) bookshelf. So here is my solution: Read as often as I can in every spare moment I find and leave my thoughts and ideas here for you to enjoy. Maybe you'll laugh at me and my struggles, or maybe they'll inspire you to read. Who knows what this adventure holds in store?

A weird thing I find incredibly helpful for art/writing.

Eplans.com is a website that sells blueprints for houses. 

This might not seem that helpful but if you want a characters house you can make selections based on what sort of house you want them to live in. 

Then browse through the results and find the house you want. Then you can view the blueprints and have a room layout for that house, which can help with visualising the space they live in. 

It makes describing generic homes so much easier.

Why is Ukraine in turmoil?

Very upset by the protests in Ukraine. So much death and violence.  Everyone should read this.  Everyone should know what happens when you argue to the point of hatred, forgetting what you were arguing over in the first place.

So I know I haven't written in a while, but I've been busy applying to jobs and doing interviews, etc. etc.. But today I finally went to the bookstore. And not only did I buy new books, but something incredible happened. I inspired someone to read. Do you know how amazing that feels? Let me start at the beginning. So I'm looking through the teen/young adult section of the store and I find out that its book fair night for my old high school and a middle school in my county. So as I'm looking through the books I start up some conversations with some younger readers to see what books they like, what ones they don't, etc. So then this lady starts trying to help out this girl who doesn't like to read. She's tried thread but its just too boring for her to finish. She keeps denying book after book that's placed in front of her, eventually deciding that any book will do as long as it gets her mom off her back. Having been caught in that endeavor, I decided to suggest one that never woman had presented yet. I handed her the new paperback special edition of The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater, and I tell her that this book is one that I have loved and re-read many times. After reading the back panel, she inquires after more books by Maggie, which earns me some shocked looks by the women with her (her mom and a teacher). In the end, she left with Shiver, another book by Maggie, and the teacher asked me if I would come speak for her class! I feel so good knowing that that girl will learn to love reading, all because a peer (or at least someone of her age) recommended a book that she might actually like, unlike every other books he's ever tried. I hope she becomes an avid reader like me because of a book by Maggie. I read Shiver and never stopped! If you get the chance to inspire someone to read, don't hesitate. Books open new worlds for us to explore or to hide in. They help us become who we are and inspire us in ways that no other object can. Watch a tv show and be entertained for an hour. Read a book and enter a world beyond your wildest dreams.

More books for the list

So I have three new books to add to the list!! I’m almost done unpacking nag getting situated at home again, so now I have time to tell you guys about the new books I’ve gotten.

Tigers destiny- Colleen Houck

Chosen at nightfall- C.C. Hunter Dead silence- Kimberly Derting I plan on reading Dead Silence next. If you haven’t heard of Kimberly Dertings work before, this is the fourth installment in her body finder series. They’re all full of suspense and very imaginative. My favorite part is that there are small chapters strewn about the book from the point of view of the serial killer, which makes it even more suspenseful and almost scary. I’ve only read the prologue, but this already seems to be an amazing book. Go check it out if you’ve never heard of this series before, and if you have, go get this latest addition of Dertings’ amazing writing!!

A little break

So yesterday my mother drove me home 10 hours from school for summer break, and ever since I got back I've been cleaning and unpacking. I will be pretty busy the next few days so I won't be able to read, but I'll be back in a couple of days. :)

Paper Towns

I finished paper towns earlier today, and I've spent the last few hours trying to think of what to say. Really, what is there to say about such a book? This book is amazing. The characters, the plot, the great writing. Everything about this book is so enticing. While reading this book I have learned so much about myself and about other people as well. I think, if I had to name what this book is about, I would say that Paper Towns is about believing the images you create in your own head about what you think other people will be like, and falling short when it comes to reality. But it's also ok to imagine, because without that imaginary image you'll never really know who that person is until your image falls short. This book is about discovering yourself and others while being adventurous. It's about how people try to live up to the expectations of others and that's what makes them fake. It's about doing something that you would never do just because you can. I would recommend the book to anyone, no matter what your age of preference of genre. This book will change your life for the better and make you think about how you see the world and how it sees you.

A Few Words In Between

Sorry I haven't been posting/reading the last couple days.  This week is exam week/move out week and it's been a little complicated. As of right now, my roommate has already left and our room feels very empty and very sad.

Anyway, yesterday I did get the chance to read a little bit more of Paper Towns and this one passage struck me, especially since I couldn't have read it at a more perfect time.

      "And as paralyzing and upsetting as the never agains were, the final leaving felt perfect.  Pure.  The most distilled possible form of liberation.  Everything that mattered except one lousy picture was in the trash, but it felt so great.  I started jogging, wanting to put even more distance between myself and school.

      It's hard to leave- until you leave.  And then it's the easiest goddamned thing in the world.

      I leave, and the leaving is so exhilarating."

This is amazing.  The feeling of knowing that you're leaving something important, but you're not leaving that important thing prematurely.  Rather, you're leaving it at the right time, not staying too long or too little, creating the perfection that can only come with the nostalgia of that place and the time you've spent there.  I will greatly miss my friends here at Miami, but I know that there is something waiting for me in the next moment.  And so I go, not because I have to, but rather because the leaving feels so good.

Paper Towns : Day 4

Part 2, Chapter 4 - part 2, chapter 15

I made my way past the half way point, and so far so good.  I love that this book is packed with action as well as self discovery.  

I'm excited to finish this in the next couple days!

Paper Towns : Day 3

Part 1, chapter 5 - part 2, chapter 3

So fare, I really love this book. The first part is very action packed and fast paced, with some really nice semi-romantic bits in the middle (which I really like because I'm a sap).

There were a few times that I thought Margo was going to kill herself after their night of romping around Orlando because that's what all the really good authors of this age do: Kill off the main character.  I am glad though that the rest of the novel won't (i think) be all about Q pining over her and contain a little more adventure.  I like that, even though Margo isn't present at the moment in the story, she's still a prevalent character in each chapter.  

I'm excited to see what's going to happen in the next few chapters.  I can only hope that it will be as exciting as what I've read so far!
