“The one who’s in love always wins”

A reminder a tell myself everyday. The daily ritual: I wake up, I go to the mirror- I tell myself how much I love myself. Even when the dark rain cloud over my head casts shadows over my face that has me feeling hideous. The warped, uncanny look. A smile, to brighten the shadows. A woman, I don’t truly recognize, but I push through. Before I leave home, my partner kisses my forehead. It relaxes the troubling thoughts. For a second, my mind is silent. Peace. I drive to work in silence. Sometimes I have music on, but for the most part, too many thoughts, what-ifs, how-comes, why’s, start to flood. I pull into the parking lot at work. My phone pings- a text from him, “I love you. You’re my everything. Have a great day at work. Call you at lunch❤️”

Despite everything. My mind will not win. Because I am in love.
