Before we begin, this theory will kinda touch on things in Season 2, which, while I won't talk about anything in the Korean version's FastPass (which I read), is in FastPass for English readers. Therefore, I'm putting a spoiler warning for Season 2 (alongside Season 1, for anyone who hasn't caught up to the free episodes yet)
At the end of Season 1, Chaesu turns into a cartoon sheep instead of a regular sheep. Since then, there have been two opposing theories: 1. This is part of the process of turning into a realistic sheep, and he's simply not completed his transformation. And 2. He's unique in this, and for whatever reason, he's now stuck as a cartoon until he escapes.
Part of the Process
This theory seems to be along the lines of what Chaesu thinks. And possibly, what the others think too. No one apart from Ripplet (we'll get back to that later) questions his appearance. For what has been a seemingly identical cycle, surely a deviation would get everyone to freak out, right? But neither Chestnut nor Kiwi blink an eye at Chaesu being a cartoon. And Chaesu is still worried about being eaten.
Ripplet also says, "Look at yourself! They're going to get you if you go back!" which seems to imply he'll be eaten if he were to go back to the mainland.
I'd argue, though, that this is about the end of proof for this theory. Besides, it'd be a little lame if we were presented with a plot twist (that being that he turned into a cartoon instead of a regular sheep), and then suddenly we go back on that.
Stuck as a Cartoon
Ripplet's saying what he said does not directly imply Chaesu will be eaten. Simply that "they'll get you". As to what that means is a mystery that will most likely be some type of plot twist, but I think Ripplet intentionally phrased it vaguely so that Chaesu would think it means to be eaten (or any other scary thing), get scared, and come back. After all, he was saying anything at that point to get Chaesu to stay.
Ripplet also seems confused whenever Chaesu transforms.
This is not an expression of worry or dread (like he would have had this been another step in the process of turning into a sheep) but one of confusion.
This leads to the question, though: Why are Kiwi and Chestnut (and Larmy, but he doesn't really count because of the memory wiping) not equally as confused? Now, with Chestnut, it can easily be chalked up to him not bothering to mention it on account of being in the process of trying to kill the guy. But Kiwi was not doing that. Her only comment when seeing Chaesu is "A sheep?" which implies this is normal.
But, we do have to remember something: They are implied to be out of the loop of many things. It's implied that after the victim finishes growing their horns (and they celebrate the "full moon festival"), the victim is led into Vox's tent, where they complete this transformation. We know this is before the transformation ends because Larmy doesn't know about the connection between the sheep and the humans (and this is something shown before his brain is completely fried).
It's possible they simply haven't seen a completed transformation. Or, at least, never seen the process of a completed transformation. Kiwi and Chestnut might see Chaesu as he is and experience momentary confusion before brushing it off as normal. After all, it seems like this is the first time a sheep has escaped.
Another thing: Chaesu begins developing realistic-looking sheep legs, ones that look nothing like the ones he ends up with. Why would the transformation go back and forth like that? In fact, why would the transformation process turn into a small, cartoon sheep before turning into a larger, realistic sheep? Surely, going directly from human to realistic sheep would be easier?
Besides, it's been days, possibly longer, considering clues in the real world (then again, it could be a time dilation unique to the island), and he hasn't changed at all. Comparatively, he was changing quickly prior.
But...
Is Chaesu's fate unique?
Sure, we established that Chaesu is probably not gonna be turning into a regular sheep any time soon, but is he the first to whom this happens?
This one I'm not so sure about. On the one hand, he's certainly unique amongst the previous victims. It seems like Chaesu is one, if not the only person who's escaped, so he's probably one of, if not the only one to turn into a cartoon sheep. But Ripplet is semi-confirmed (since he could be lying) about once being human, so how did that transformation happen?
After all, without all the Campfire Friends, how would this all work to begin with? Was there a previous Ripplet whom the current Ripplet replaced, or is he the first? If the former's the case, what was the first Ripplet? Was it another human brought in different circumstances, or was it a weird creature? Was everyone brought here at the same time and transformed immediately, or was it similar to Chaesu? Ripplet's the most popular one, so it's doubtful they'd trap many people without him around. Besides, he's probably not the only former human.
Is it possible that every current cartoon character was once a sheep (the blank slate) before settling into their roles? Could that happen with Chaesu? After all, Ripplet's missing and Chestnut is not in good shape, so will the universe force him into one of their roles?
Probably not. If that were the case, I doubt that Chestnut and Kiwi would be so neutral. Granted, they could also think that the other sheep also turned into cartoons like they once did, and there was simply no role for them to fulfill, therefore making them turn realistic, but that's a tad convoluted. What's more likely is that they transformed into the cartoons directly from their human selves, rather than turning into sheep initially.
So... I think that, yeah, Chaesu's fate (specifically of turning into a cartoon sheep) is unique. He's not the only guy to have turned into a cartoon, and it might be possible that the others shared fates very similar to his, but it seems that he's the only one who has had this exactly happen to him.

A fun AU idea for my CFF OC I had in mind was one where Hui-Won somehow Manages to survive Berry bear’s Attack!
Afterwards hui-won probably would focus more on surviving than getting out of campfire town all while trying to fix his problems in the real world. Hui-won would also figure out new plans to escape without going the same hassle as last time
I might turn this AU concept real but it depends 👀

Hmmmm………. I don’t know if you guys are really the characters from the Campfire Friends cartoon, something tells me that you guys are some kind of eldritch abominations that disguise themselves as retro cartoon characters to lure in adults with the intent of eating them.
