being someone who isn’t attracted to men AT ALL can be an extremely isolating experience in our society, and we find solace in the label meant specifically for us. we connect with the community within the label made specifically for us.

it hurts to see people appropriate it just because they like the way it sounds or the culture or the aesthetic.

if you are attracted to men in any way shape or form, you aren’t a lesbian, and you shouldn’t be calling yourself that. and that’s okay!

there’s another beautiful label waiting for you out there somewhere, and if you have to bend and twist a label’s definition to fit you specifically, it just isn’t the label for you.

it’s okay to not be a lesbian. if you’re not, who cares! but please don’t call yourself one or pretend like you are, as it’s extremely harmful towards real lesbians and invalidates our experiences greatly.

personally i think labels like “homosexual,” “bisexual,” and “heterosexual” are pretty inflexible, but “gay” and “lesbian” are much more flexible. theyre more about the community, less about the orientation.

i think lesbian as a label is most definitely about the orientation and experience, it’s just a part of the larger queer and/or wlw community. it’s no less deserving of a specific definition than any other sexuality.

i think it’s a problem that it’s viewed by many as not a real sexuality and instead more of a meaningless title or accolade than an actual identity and experience.

watering down the label is watering down our experiences and that is not oki doki to me
