Shawn’s breathing becomes shallow, and Shane’s becomes quicker, pupils dilating slightly as he studies the taller individual. Can’t take him in a physical fight; not strong enough. Better to prevent him from attacking in the first place.

          THERE’S A CLEAR shift in air temperature, like a chilly breeze passed through the room without stirring anything inside. Some frost creeps across the floor, spiraling up Tristan’s shoe and encasing its toe and sides with a thin layer of ice. But already, it’s melting- he can’t keep it up, he just doesn’t have the energy yet. Shane lets go of his concentration, lets out a deep breath, and lets his shoulders slump.

          BUT THERE’S A look of defiance in his eyes. If Tristan became aggressive, Shane would be more so.
