HELLO and welcome to My TS Journey

It was some August afternoon in 2006, my sister and I were in the living room enjoying CMT’s Top 20 Countdown. All the usuals--Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney. Then, someone new. A girl with blonde ringlets singing about Tim McGraw. We were instantly captivated. Mom and dad got us debut on CD that Christmas, and sometime later we attended a Rascal Flatts concert just to see Taylor open for them. Ever since then, whether it be singing in the car with my sister, my first kiss, or interactions with Blondie herself, pretty much all of my best memories have included Taylor in one way or another. Those are stories for another time. She has been my center of inspiration for all these years, and I genuinely attribute a lot of my growth to her. She provided a space for me to be a romantic, inspired me to love relentlessly. Hopefully, this page can provide a space for me to share those things with anyone who relates.

Ppl who hate it are using it as a springboard for misogyny toward fans

Ppl who love it are belittling others’ valid concerns, especially those from racial minority groups

Like you’re not stupid or bad for enjoying Taylor’s music, and I’m sorry people are using us as punching bags right now.

But when MULTIPLE black women are saying that these lyrics make them uncomfortable, everyone needs to stfu and honor that.

Even if you don’t believe Taylor is being racist on purpose, she is at best oblivious of her own centering of whiteness and needs it to be addressed.

It also needs to be addressed for viewers and listeners who may share similar habits/mindsets.

It really is making me laugh how some people are scandalized by “Wood” and saying it’s vulgar. Compared to some other songs by her peers it’s just heavily suggestive and pretty tame. Yes it is somewhat new territory for Taylor but it’s not shocking.

I would argue that False God, Dress, and Guilty as Sin are all far more sexual songs, yet they were mostly well received. The issue people have with Wood is not the subject matter, but the execution. This isn’t a sex song, it’s a superstition song with bad dick jokes thrown in. Seriously, I heard better dick jokes in the hallways of the middle school I used to work at.

Not sure who this post will reach, in the midst of this current post-release chaos, but I just wanted to say this:

We’re not her best friends, we’re the costumers.

It’s okay to say that the product she sold us is bad. Especially when she’s acting exactly like a brand, as she probably should (in her defence).

If you order something on Amazon that doesn’t fit the description, you’d return it on the basis that you were misled into buying it and it doesn’t meet your expectations.

If you always go to your local bakery for cakes and one day they decide to use poor quality ingredients to make their product, you’d probably stop going or let them know their product isn’t as good as it was.

Taylor Swift made this album haphazardly and lazily, and on top of that she tried to sell it to us (the costumer) as something completely different, effectively misleading us.

Us (the costumer), shouldn’t have to make up elaborate theories about how all this is part of a bigger plan or how she made it badly on purpose, because she has already taken our money, when she told us that this was her best Lemon Drizzle cake, and she’s our local bakery where we’ve always bought our cakes, so we trusted the baker only to realise she sold us a chocolate muffin instead.

So, it’s okay to feel disappointed and lied to, but for me personally, I will let this be a lesson for the future.

The thing is, I’ve grown up with taylor but I am also growing up in general! And as I grow up I am forming stronger ethical and moral opinions! I can’t turn a blind eye to all of the ways that she’s stopped caring! At a certain point, if I defended her or continued being a fan in the way I was when I was 16 (buying vinyls and merch, doing free promo online, praising the ground she walks on) then I would be a hypocrite! Bc the way she acts now is very much a pattern of behavior that I am critical of on every other front, and she can’t be exempt from my criticism just bc I’ve been a fan for decades!

i actually dont think the people who are still so far up taylor’s ass really understand just how sad it is for us who have evolved beyond her like yes there are a lot of moments of rage but i am SO SAD over the direction she has chosen to go in her life (apolitical, surrounded by magas, using ai, suing ppl left and right) like every day for the last year or so ive just been mourning my almost 2 decade relationship w her. i am so grateful for the people and memories and experiences she brought into my life but i cannot, having become the empathetic, thoughtful, political person ive become, stand by these choices and its so so so sad it sucks so bad but if i made an exception for taylor that i am not making for anyone else, i would be perpetuating so much harm

This a million times. I am known in my life as The Swiftie, and I’ve gone on countless rambling gushing tangents about how much her art has meant to me since I was 7 years old. Taylor has provided the soundtrack to my entire life, and so many of my fondest memories involve her and her music.

And I get it, she doesn’t know us and doesn’t owe it to fans to exist in any certain way. It’s just disappointing bc her humility and humanity were what made her so special. Watching that fade away is devastating.

At this point, Taylor doesn’t represent honesty or artistry or love to me anymore. Instead, she upholds so much of what I am against. I blame the rise of capitalism and celebrity culture for snuffing out one of the greatest artists of our time.

It’s been a couple days and I’ve concluded my initial ranking, which can be cleanly sliced into three distinctive groups.

Everything I wanted and more:

Eldest Daughter, Wood, Actually Romantic, CANCELLED!

Most of the production and melodies are fantastic, but it’s ultimately the tacky lyrics and immaturity which formed that bottom tier :( don’t get mad at me, I’m already sad about this lol

And see I am holding out on my final verdict until I get to hear these. As a day 1 Lover stan, I have always believed that album would’ve been far more appreciated if we’d gotten Loverfest. Sometimes an extra component brings the concept together.

I wanted to love this album so bad, so I am genuinely hoping I’m just missing a piece of the puzzle.

From a 35 year old woman, this album comes across way more whiny than insightful. An attitude I could sort of appreciate in TTPD due to it being truly reactionary word vomit.

But she specifically stated that she was far more intentional and particular with these lyrics… so… it’s weird lol

Especially Actually Romantic??? If it really is about Charli, then that’s fucked up and shows how deeply out of touch Taylor is being rn.
