Early mornings were usually reserved for nursing cups of coffee while blinking blearily into the windows. Flipping through the newspapers, reading the same old story about the same old couple who had fought yet again over the same absurd reason. Nothing ever really happens in the quaint little town they live in. Save for the occasional group of teens causing trouble with the local cops.
However uneventful the outside life may be, indoors was a completely different story.
Shizuo, at the tender age of ten runs full speed out of his room carrying a butterfly net in one hand and a satchel filled with pokeballs and treats in the other. He nearly crashed into his mother in his hurry to get outside, crusted eyelids and all. The sudden obstruction in his path causes him to skid to halt, get his foot stuck on the carpet and ultimately, fall flat on his face. Kaikyō, who was sleeping peacefully beneath the table perked up at the sound of a body hit the floor.
"Good morning, son," his father comments, rather unperturbed.
Shizuo quickly wiped his face with the towel his mother handed him before he sped off into the tall grass and disappeared into the forest. Kaikyō was by now wide awake and dashed after the boy.
By the time he reached a small clearing he frequented, he was buzzing with excitement. Shizuo even nearly slipped on the wet grass, tripped on rock and had a face full of dirt, despite knowing the path by heart. Perhaps it was the boy's clumsiness or yesterday's downfall causing the ground to be slippery. Whichever it is, Shizuo blames the latter.
Several bug type pokemon were gathered around the pond. Butterfrees flew about in the trees and Ledybas lounged in the tall blades of grass where a Metapod lay, hidden. However, Shizuo paid them no mind as he was focused on only one thing.
There, on the pond's surface was a Surskit. Shizuo crouched down, pokeball in one hand and butterfly net, in the other, he leaped at the unsuspecting blue bug with a yell. The pond was cold and reached just below his knees but he was already searching for the getaway pokemon which had leapt closer to the part of the pond covered eith grass.
"You're not gonna get away from me!"
Shizuo was soaking wet by the end of it, but luckily, he had backed the little bugger into a corner and was poised, butterfly net overhead ready to strike.
Huh? Shizuo blinks as he was met with rust colored eyes staring at him in a not quite a glare but quite obviously annoyed. "You protozoan! Look at what you've done."
He looks in the direction the boy was pointing and just barely sees a bushy brown tail disappear in the forest.
"Great. Let's go Psyche, clearly some people are just too dumb to even think about just throwing a pokeball at a pokemon to catch it."
The boy turnes to look at him, Psyduck in tow. Shizuo, whose ears were red and eyebrows furrowed in both shame and confusion, rubbed at his neck hesitantly.
He was mustering up the courage to apologize when he hears a loud squeak. The boy had seized up in fear, his face gave away the emotions he tried not to let the other see. It was his turn to flush red in embarrassment. He relaxes his arms but still holds a wary gaze at the Rockruff behind Shizuo.
"What are you looking at!" he yells defensively, stepping back when the Rockruff perks up playfully.
"Relax. This is my buddy Kaikyō."
"You named your dog after a body of water?"
"That's where I found him!" Shizuo exclaims proudly. "Oh, and his full name is actually Tsugaru Kaikyō Fuyugeshiki."
The boy clutches his stomach and nearly topples over from laughing to hard. "That's somehow worse! Talk about creativity."
"Huh? You're the one with a Psyduck named Psyche! You wouldn't know creativity even when it hit you in the face." Shizuo, although mad at being ridiculed, was puffing his chest at the comeback.
"Figured. Seeing how much of a brute you are, I'm not surprised that's all you know to do."
Izaya rolled his eyes. "My name you idiot. It's Izaya."
"Oh." Shizuo nods dumbly. "Oh right, right, I'm Shizuo."
"Nice to meet you Shizuo," he smirks. "and by the way, your Surskit got away."
A little fanfic I came up with for @jyuurarara 's fandom event. The theme was "Fated Encounter" and immediately thought of Pokemon. Please Enjoy!
P.s. This may be last you'll hear from me for a while. I would still be on Tumblr but I don't think I'll be as active as I was, once upon a time
