Not just for my Kings and Kwens who are looking for a tower of strength, easement, friendship and more you have found it. Those who are unaware Keratoconus [KEHR-uh- toh-KOH-nus;] (KC) is a RARE disorder of the eye which results in progressive thinning of the cornea. This may result in blurry vision, double vision, nearsightedness, irregular astigmatism, and light sensitivity leading to poor quality-of-life. Usually both eyes are affected. Lets share and support each other!

It’s Friday!!! Tryin to stay positive. . . After 4 years 2O2O is ending FINALLY LOL

it may seen like I’m rushin it but seriously there are 84 days until 2021 77 days until Christmas! 48 days until Thanksgiving 22 days until HALLOWEEN

I’m greatful for this year contrary to popular belief. i think if anythin it was a teaching year a learning year. . . and so far a year of growth.

i got exposed to covid(legit like the 2nd week into quarantine) I was terrified but u heard what trump said “don’t be scared of covid” (🤣it’s a joke)

i went on a couple vacations

celebrated my birthday for 2 weeks (ayyyeee💃🏽)

forced to online nursing school/teaching online school

redecorated my space

learned about my friends or lack there of/met new people

watched the most tv i’ve ever watched

learned how to align my chakras

started adjusting people’s crowns (Locs By LuLu)

started my yoga journey

noticed that I’m becoming anally precise with my things EVERYTHING NEEDS A PLACE N SMELL GOOD (i’m turnin into my nana send help)

focused more astrology

prepared for my surgery... I’m gonna be a pirate or kill bill (for the eye patch) for halloween

Anybody have some Halloween costume ideas with eye patches ? ? ?

lastly i’ve learned patience is a virtue... no seriously like! cause there have been times i almost knocked heads off of older adults let alone people my age (smh)

i told myself I would write every week, friday to be exact but as we know that’s not how life works. 
As soon as i decided to start doin things I love i feel like i was hit by a heavy burden. i went to the eye doctor last week thinking it will just be a quick check up but still knowing in the back of my mind this could be “THAT” appointment.
It was that appointment. my right eye is so deformed they couldn’t even get a picture nor an accurate reading on my cornea. with that being said it is time for me to do the crosslinking now or basically never! i say never because my right eye is so severe that if i dont get the crosslinking now then i will have to have a cornea transplant. im not a fan of the recovery time and all i think of the movie “THE EYE”

 

long story short im getting the crosslinking 


Crosslinking is a outpatient procedure that drops riboflavin drops(vitamin B3) consistently for an allotted time in the eye and sealed with a ultraviolet light


surgery 2 weeks from now to the day. im terrified, its my eye, humans are going to be working on my eye. i will be out for the first week for sure but after the band-aid contact is removed I have a feeling that with an eye patch me and my left eye will have to manage! also the fact that the moon phase will be gorgeous a waxing crescent (GODS THUMB) but just a reminder to me that GODs got me!
ANYWAY anybody have any words of encouragement or experiences!

Today I reflect on a terrible memory.

Last year in the mid section of my nursing career I realized my “glasses” weren’t working... AT ALL. It seemed some days were better than others.

Yes I knew I had KC but I jus didn’t have guidence and wasn’t prepared to what was about to come

On this particular day we were reading blood pressures manually. Im sure everybody has seen one of these before they are call sphygmomanometer (yea is stupid lol)

When using these u measure by the first and last heartbeat and that’s how u get the pressure.. I can hear extremely well I say it’s due to being legally blind but who knows. So I could hear the beats perfectly clear but u guessed it I couldn’t see the damn numbers to save my life or my patients for this matter.. it was only practice relax! I told a couple of my classmates whom I jus met anyway so they didn’t believe me I mean u can’t look at somebody wit KC and tell I don’t even think they know what it is as much as I told them 🤷🏾‍♀️

I went home contiplating my life my career I’ve always wanted to be in health care! I was devistated! I jus researched and prayed and meditated and researched and meditated and prayed! Depression set in again... people around me that I loved brushed over me always saying “I can’t see” or “I can’t see that foreal it’s hard”

One night like the night I made this tumblr I found a speacilist jus up typing and Dr. Brad Feldman from Philadelphia eye associates is my cornea speacilist Dr. Justin Sherman is my resident ophthalmologist speacilist in contacts!

Long story short I guess today didn’t start with a bad memory but a reassuring one! I graduate 🤞🏾 in December due to covid probably longer but at least my book work will be done!

I wrote this without my contacts sorry for errors 🤷🏾‍♀️ does anybody else close their blind eye to type on their phone!?

Also if you have crystals I hope you charged them last night ima bring my out tonight as well 💫

So yeah.

Funny not so funny keratoconus story.

Whenever I’m on campus, I can’t recognize anyone from more than like 5 feet in front of me. So it’s weird when people say they saw me and wave. I didn’t see any of it.

But like I always tell my friends, put a snap of what you have on in the morning on Snapchat or something. I’ll remember the colors and patterns if they aren’t too small and I can make them out. So I literally know my friends as the familiar blob wearing a blue shirt and black jeans or some shit or a blonde bob that day.

And i had this one ex-friend who would change her outfits throughout the day, extra ass hoe so when she walked up to me, she would scare me, like most people do because I never really see them coming.

Long story short, I recognize people by their outlines not really in depth facial features unless they are super close to me.

It’s so surreal that there are people like me out here! The struggle is real! When one of your senses leave! I can’t wait to see where this tumblr journey takes me! I jus want to spread positivity love light and maybe money for medical expenses too!

Atlas Corneal Topography

Corneal topography is the gold standard for screening patients for keratoconus. This is my Zeiss Atlas report that has both an axial curvature map and a “Rings Image” in both eyes 😢 which is a Placido disc-based topography. The warmer (redder) areas mark the areas of greater steepening. There shouldn’t be any red at all!
