Having Kerataconus is so frustrating because you truly have to come to terms with how fucking stupid and ignorant some people choose to be.

"Have you tried glasses?" Well.... no fucking shit Sherlock. that's quite literally the first thing people try when they have vision problems. If I could see out of glasses, I wouldn't choose to wear plastic saucer plates in my goddamn eyes.

"So glad I got Lasik. It fixed my vision." I love that for you, Sharon. I, however, cannot get LASIK because people with keratoconus are inherently disqualified from the surgery because it could lead to us going blind.

" I have an astigmatism 🥺" Yeah, you and most of the fucking population you imbecile.

"Wow you're so determined to be able to see, I don't think God wants that for you" I'm exploding you with my mind as we speak....

i told myself I would write every week, friday to be exact but as we know that’s not how life works. 
As soon as i decided to start doin things I love i feel like i was hit by a heavy burden. i went to the eye doctor last week thinking it will just be a quick check up but still knowing in the back of my mind this could be “THAT” appointment.
It was that appointment. my right eye is so deformed they couldn’t even get a picture nor an accurate reading on my cornea. with that being said it is time for me to do the crosslinking now or basically never! i say never because my right eye is so severe that if i dont get the crosslinking now then i will have to have a cornea transplant. im not a fan of the recovery time and all i think of the movie “THE EYE”

 

long story short im getting the crosslinking 


Crosslinking is a outpatient procedure that drops riboflavin drops(vitamin B3) consistently for an allotted time in the eye and sealed with a ultraviolet light


surgery 2 weeks from now to the day. im terrified, its my eye, humans are going to be working on my eye. i will be out for the first week for sure but after the band-aid contact is removed I have a feeling that with an eye patch me and my left eye will have to manage! also the fact that the moon phase will be gorgeous a waxing crescent (GODS THUMB) but just a reminder to me that GODs got me!
ANYWAY anybody have any words of encouragement or experiences!

And then it happened a week later

Visually&mentaly Impaired

I followed Redd closely behind him as he made his way into the doctors office. I could tell I was about to hear bad news but for some reason I felt calm. Redd signed me in and the receptionist handed him a clipboard full of papers to fill out. He scanned the room and made his way over to an empty love seat next to the water cooler. As he began to fill out the series of questions I attempted to look up and see my surroundings but The flourecent lighting made my eyes throb in pain. It hurt so bad that I had to put my sunglasses back on. Any light wether it was natural sunlight or lighting from a room hurt me. The only thing that made the pain stop was to shut my eyes closed and refrain from any eye movement. Redd asked if I was okay and I nodded without saying a word. I couldn’t see him but I knew he was worried. I wanted to burst into tears but I knew if I did that the pain would worsen. I can feel any sense of calmness that I had in the beginning quickly leave my body and I felt the panic start to sink in. I knew what was ahead of me but I wondered how I was gonna take the news once I heard it out loud. Would I become an emotional drama queen or would I find solace in this terrible situation I’m in. In that exact moment I decided that whatever the outcome was that I’d choose to be have a positive attitude. Because that was the only way I knew how to face it. Any negative energy I put into it would probably break me. The nurse called my name and Redd guided me into the back room where I was going to hear the bad news. I sat down on the patient bed and I started to think back at all that research I did. All the trials I searched for and never found. There was no cure only progression. That’s what killed me the most. What I have had no cure it only progressed. I looked around the room and saw images and models of the human eye. All the layers it consists of. How we as humans can see the entire world with two eyeballs. But mine were deteriorating. I was never gonna be able to hold a normal job again. I was never going to able to even drive my car again. My life was changing and I literally couldn’t even see it coming. All I can see was fog and halo rings of light. I couldn’t see details in my husbands face. I couldn’t see the clipboard full of paperwork that I had to fill out. I took my vision for granted. Without it I was useless. I was slowly going blind and I didn’t need A doctor to tell me that. I just needed a doctor to confirm it so I can move on with my life. Whatever kind of life I had left anyway. The doctor came in and he said it. Out loud and it was officially confirmed. I have kerataconus which has no cure and it only progresses.

My eyesight is getting worse and worse. I wasn't worried about Kerataconus before but now...just hope I won't have to have surgery :/

my vision been getting really iffy lately. makes me consider that surgery again but I feel like I would be too scared to actually do it even though I need it

I guess I have officially recovered from eyeball surgery. Still can’t see as well as I did pre-surgery (and maybe I never will) but I’m mostly recovered. Can drive and work again, so there’s that. I trust myself less and less with the driving, though, which sucks (previously I had always been confident in my driving ability). Hoping to get some special contacts (glasses won’t help me because of the nature of the disease) that will improve my vision, though. Sometime soon hopefully. Not that anyone probably cares, but a couple of people did comment or ask questions about it a while ago when the procedure was done.
