Story Project Statement

This was a unique project compared to the other two this year, because while it took some time to find a useful idea for what to use, I got lots of inspiration by confining myself to a single location

My main focus in this project was in clay sculpture, I initially thought of making pots but I turned to models again before really developing on it

By only getting inspiration from one place, being the local graveyard, I found different ways to look at things when trying to

Usually I'd try to explore very broad topics based around a single word, but here the topic I chose "stories that will never be told", it encourages more creative thinking as there is only so many ways to interpret it

Three graves but they're covered by nature to the point that nobody can access them, let alone know who they belonged to

Made two variations of this model, the second one has a third grave split in two, I didn't know which one of the two would be better so I decided to upload them both

It's hard to make a clay sculpture look intentionally rugged without making it look crude and half made, but I tried to also have faded engraving on the front.

One of the graves outside the old church is almost completely covered by ivy with the lettering almost unintelligible.

One of the things that is readable on the gravestone is the date showing that it's over 100 years since the person died, it got me thinking on what the world was like back when whoever was in that grave was still around

Took the prompt of "story" and expanded it into "stories that will never be told"

The abandoned church I live down the road from has a serious sense of melancholy, reminds me of the march of time, the oldest graves are completely blank.

The ones still readable date back over a hundred years ago, the people on the graves there were alive during the potato famine.

Using books again, it was easier to make than the bookshelf but keeping perfect squares

Getting the middle shelf to support the weight was difficult but I eventually got it

Movement Project Statement

For my movement project I decided to focus on the theme of change and how it influences an object’s state of matter or how lighting can completely influence the atmosphere.

The idea of change was fascinating as it is probably just a concept of our perception, like how time might not be an actual constant in our universe, we just percieve it to be that way. Change can incur to almost anything and in multiple ways, like how variables like heat and temperature influence enviroments around the world

Change is the movement of somethign from one form to another, so I thoguth it would be a good theme for the project. I tried to show this through photography, drawings and ceramic models

I had two notebooks during this project, one for general ideas development, the second was for my animation module

Both at sunrise and sunset to show how the look of the locations can change completely depending on the location of the sun

Older models for my ceramics elective

The top left is when I was working on the theme of Growth, but the top right and the big one is about the theme of change that I stuck with till the end

The ceramics were inspired from an artist named Angela Schwer

Her sculptures of plants and flowers were so excellent and yet so simple, I made multiple attempts to incorporated it into my work

Even though I stuck with the theme of "Change" in the end, it did help me refine my skill with ceramics

Made these scotch tape sculptures brainstorming ideas for my final ceramic sculpture

I always wanted to make a sculpture of something solid rippling into a bunch of different states, I tried it out with my last sculpture but I'm going to try and perfect it with the next one hopefully

Showing the paper gets more folded as it goes down as I'm utilising the theme of "change" instead of blur as it's more interesting to me from an artistic point of view
