Artist statement
At the start of my project I focused on ephemeral items as portraiture. (See earlier posts) I got pictures of my friends and families bedside tables, and painting them in ink. I experimented with large scale and different types of paper.
I did bedside tables as a form of portraiture until Easter break. After we came back from Easter I wanted to move onto something new because I felt I was stuck painting still lives, which didn’t interest me as much.
I printed out pictures of my friends and painted them instead on boards of card I had primed with a mix of red paint, pva glue and magazine collage. I used my knowledge I gained from the life painting workshops to practice using minimal detail, intentional brushstrokes, limited colour pallet and use of complimentary colours. I researched artists such as Kaye Donachie to enrich my practice. I painted my friends from life relaxing in the park too.
