“Movement between two homes” I am exploring the emotions and images brought within the movement between two homes through the elective choices of ‘painting’ ‘graphic design’ and ‘fashion’ bED Student

Personal statement.

As an overall, I quite enjoyed testing out the different elective choices with a corresponding theme or heading to understand and test using them towards a specific purpose

Even as a bED student knowing already what I’m going into, it was enjoyable to get an insight into what other careers can prosper from within the college and even gives you a chance to be 100% confident in what you’re going into and if that’s what you fully want to do during the rest of your time in the college.

Personally I feel I could have and should have had a lot more to add to my movement project as a whole, with some personal issues replacing the lost time I missed out on some weeks in the studios but still am happy with the way some of the pieces came out and enjoyed the tips and knowledge I did gain while being in the studios.

My Personal favourite elective in which I done was painting as I found it easier to be able to depict more pure emotions that I wanted to show through my project heading of “movement between two homes”

Fashion design

Started playing around with some sketches to bring ideas that correspond to my topic and came up with an interesting concept of a road line themed cross-body bag

The road lines between the two houses within my project are corresponded to the design and pattern which is seen on the bag concept

Resembles with myself as I always leave the house with some sort of a bag or extra pocket to throw my loose objects into to avoid loosing them and figured this bag itself is not only convenient but quite fashionable

Home of emotions

Depicted the house in which I would of grown up with as a child through the time of being with my father, with the sense of emotions of warmth and happiness as the house itself was always filled with family members who I loved (nanny&grandad)

Seeing I was doing graphic design this week I decided to look into some graphic designers and found Massimo Vignelli

I found his design of the subway map interesting and also kind of similar to my idea as he is showing a route between places in relation to mine as I’m trying to show not only a route but emotions between two places

Graphic design we used the idea of shapes to make a simplistic 3D piece out of paper

Used it to represent the two homes and different sizes to show meaning and the type of things you would then see between journeys

Small Online Castledermot logos/slogans/words that have sentimental value of growing up in Castledermot as a child.

- Doyles, pub in Castledermot I used to look at Liverpool matches with my dad

- scoil diarmada, primary school I went to in Castledermot

- Horans/Centra, service station close to the house that I used to go to with my friends and family to get a roll or collect card trading(match attax) games with my friends

- Castlevilla AFC, soccer club that I’ve played with since 8 years of age in which I still play with to this current day

-Castledermot logo through local newspaper, local newspaper as its a fond memory of my grandad of always had to have each weeks paper to know the craic going on in the town

Graphic design tutorial

Experimented with squares using card and using them to create different ideas representing the headings given

Then done the same concept again using all type of shapes we created ourselves to give meaning to personal words that relate to our project and also new designs for the same words we found interesting from the first.

Padraig McCaul

Irish based contemporary artist

What I personally take from Padraig’s work is that he has the the same intention of bringing rural houses of places that are meaningful for him to life by giving them meaning and emotion through the arts of painting.

Although his paintings aren’t the idealistic nature of realism or depicting every crook and cranny of the building itself but more captivating the area around it and giving the sense of emotion in which comes with the area he decided to paint

His painting “under a crimson sky” shows this as although he has included the home/house the main source of attention within the painting is the sky, showing a sense of danger yet safety as the home is there to sort of hide under, giving the viewer a contradiction in itself of wether this place is viewed as scary or safe to himself as the painter.

Edward hopper is an American painter & graphic designer who I personally took interest in as he depicts a sense of emotion through paintings which may only contain a house, portrays a sense of feeling which is portrayed with the thought of the house itself through his colour use and contrast between bright and darker colours, this is the type of emotion in which I’m personally trying to involve within my own artwork as I’m trying to portray the feeling and thoughts felt through an image and process of moving between two houses and two sides of a family

Decided to do some practice sketching of the Castlecomer house to just learn the proportions and discover small adjustments in pencil in preparation for paint and do just do a short note taking of the first things that come to mind when I think of the house itself.

ACCESSORY BOWLS MADE FROM VINYLS

Decided to use an idea I thought of personally when I had nowhere to put my art supplies or personal accessories of creating personal accessory bowls out of old vinyls found in my house or charity shops ect.

Refurbishing old broken vinyls into another purpose and use making them alive once again. Up cycling these vinyls prevents the poor binning scenarios and allows thems to be upcycled to something useful
