Self assessment
Learning Outcome 1: Aptitude & Ability in Elected Areas
In painting, I showed strength in expressive mark-making and colour to convey movement. In print, I developed skills in etching and layering to explore repetition. In ceramics, I demonstrated spatial awareness by creating sculptural forms that embodied motion. I initially struggled with technical control in woodcutting. Through experimentation and feedback, I improved and confirmed painting as my strongest discipline.
Learning Outcome 2: Creative Use of Materials, Media, Processes
I explored acrylic painting, expressive drawing, etching, layered print, clay construction, and glazing. I took risks by allowing blur to remain visible. In print, I layered and repeated imagery to echo crowd movement. In ceramics, I manipulated clay into curved and folded forms to suggest physical motion. These material choices supported my concept of nightlife energy.
Learning Outcome 3: Research & Contextual Understanding
My primary research consisted of nightclub photography capturing blur, lighting, and collective movement. I analysed how motion and colour distort within crowded spaces. Artists such as Francis Bacon influenced my use of distortion and blur. This research is visible in my smeared paintings and layered prints. My Tumblr documents the progression from research to resolved outcomes.
Learning Outcome 4: Creative & Conceptual Development
I aimed to communicate collective movement within nightlife spaces. The project began with figurative studies and gradually became more abstract. My focus shifted from documenting people to expressing energy and atmosphere. Painting explored blur and colour, print explored repetition, and ceramics explored frozen movement. The interdisciplinary connection between these approaches shows my conceptual development.
Learning Outcome 5: Commitment, Motivation, Self-Reliance
I worked consistently throughout the module and regularly updated my Tumblr. I managed my time by progressing clearly through painting, print, and ceramics. When I struggled technically, I experimented and sought workshop support. My primary research photography shows independent initiative. The development across disciplines demonstrates my commitment and motivation.
How did you bridge your three elective areas? We had 5 intended learning outcomes for you but did you discover any unintended learning outcomes?
I bridged my three electives by using the same primary research images across painting, print, and ceramics. I often looked back at earlier work from previous weeks and reused it as reference to maintain continuity. Painting explored blur and colour, print focused on repetition, and ceramics translated movement into physical form. Keeping this consistent visual language strengthened the interdisciplinary connection. An unintended learning outcome was realising how revisiting and reworking material deepens conceptual development.
