"My Beloved Selkie"

This picture I drew for Irish Mythology and Folklore exhibition which has never happened. :'( Here I give viewers some space for interpretation. They (as like you, dear reader) can choose what's going on the picture, does Selkie girl say her last goodbye to her boyfriend or she is greeting him after long time of separation.

Ward Drawing. After surgery

It was so strange do not feel any pain after three days of permanent hell.

After surgery I started new sketchbook from Des. Below you can see concepts from unannounced project of my friend and the monkey god from Indian mythology.

After I moved to Croom Orthopedic Clinic I stayed in common ward with neighbors, so you can see some of them.

Ward Drawings. Before surgery

In the beginning of March, I fell down from bicycle and broke my hip. To spend my time before surgery i drew. Fortunately, I had my old sketchbook in my backpack.

You can see the difference between two of my conditions above. Rough, thick strokes were because of pain which made me hard to relax and focus on the process.

I tried to draw anything to not think about pain. Sometimes even strong painkillers weren't able decrease it, as you could see from two last pages. 

Then I didn't know for sure if my hip joint will be fixed or replaced on prosthetic one. I really grateful to Des who came to visit me and told that I will be good even if my hip joint will be replaced. Also, Des brought some food and art materials like new sketchbook.

I broke my leg recently, but now I feel much better.

I choosed Animation and Motion Design before that accident, so Yvonne and Paul said they can send me individual learning plan while I can't come to college as usually

Now, my sculpture is complete.

Now bowl covered with cardboard and tape and joined with hand with whisker. I thought that empty bowl would look pretty boring, so I added some kind of spills of whipped cream or pancake batter.

Sculpture — week two

Here you can see I made hand bigger and thicker, and whisker in this hand became more small and accurate.

Sarah O'Flaherty asked me about my choice and vision and project. Also she suggested to me short video with screw driver.

Also I made a frame for whisking bowl. I will cover it with cardboard and tape as I made hand with whisker before.

Usually, I use for sculpting clay or plasteline, but this time only materials I had exept wire were cardboard, glue and tape. First I thought about make sculpture from recycled cardboard but understood I don't want to seat with it until the Second Coming.

So, I decided to bond cardboard to the wired frame by tape and shape the sculpture that way.

Sculpture — week 1

Our sculpture project started with research. Sarah and Michael told to write some verbs of action (according to Movement topic).

I chosed to keep closer to my character Oswald Jr. so most of my verbs accords to cooking:

When Michael saw my list and trying to make sketches with charcoal strokes, he made for me kind of paintbrush of thing ropes for improvisation with verbs like to whip of to whisk.

As you can see, only sure detail was a person smashed with Oswald's tail.

Live drawing and painting days was good and interesting experience. Although I missed painting, drawing of nude nature with charcoal still was inspiring.

Keep going interpretation of Movement topic through painting. Maybe that way could see Oswald's hands when he peels potatoes or some other similar kind of vegetables or roots...

Materials were pencil and wooden tip of paintbrush which was suggested by Sylvia.

Artist research: Maggi Hambling

Maggi Hambling, british artist and sculptor, well-known for her non-conforming art like A conversation with Oscar Wilde statue in London.

Not so long time ago there was her exhibition named Touch in the British Museum. Artworks there made in different technics and with different materials, like paints, ink or charcoal but all of them have same detail: Maggi never give you ready-made image to look, her pictures are hints, they welcome you to come and take closer look even you don't like it. You literally complete the picture in your imagination, relying on canvas.

Maggi's paintings here reflecting the way human attention works: the eyes are always the center of attention, and they are almost always very carefully drawn, but the further away from the eyes, the less distinct it is, the simpler and more random the strokes, and the details on the periphery are barely discernible. If eyes are closed, then face on the canvas looks like a piece of melted wax mostly.
