Hot take apparently: cannon is not the be all end all. Death of the author is a wonderful thing and some people on here get so tangled up with cannon that they forget that stories belong to the consumer, that’s the beautiful thing about fandom, we get to create our own version of stories, like in the old oral traditions! The story is ours to interpret and tweak to our liking, it doesn’t just belong to the writer(s), it doesn’t just belong to the actors, it doesn’t just belong to the director(s) it belongs to everyone who sees something in the story, everybody who loves it owns a little chunk of cannon to call their own. That’s what head cannon is for, and why we even create fanworks! We should revel in our different versions and lift each other up in fandom!

i LOVE spock’s captaincy, because it’s not about being in command it’s about being a teacher. when i first realized he was a captain, i got kinda mad because it’s very obvious in tos when he’s in command he’s just very uncomfortable and looks like he would rather be doing literally anything else, but it’s so cute in twok he’s got all these students who have barely ever been on a real ship before doing crazy shit..and when kirk talks to him and is like nooo i wouldn’t deprive you of your captaincy spock is like No jim you don’t understand. if we are going into a Real situation you NEED to be the captain i cannot. AND I LOVE THAT. i fucking love him for being an educator. not to mention that he never even took the kobayashi maru whereas jim took it 3 times that was so fucking real of him
