Gray hides his stimming because he's been taught that it's "embarrassing" and "childish", but when comfortable around someone he will start to stim more openly and genuinely… he stims a lot though, like I feel you'd be genuinely surprised with how much he does it in private. He's almost always tapping his feet, or bouncing his leg, or drumming his fingers on something, or flapping his hands… and when he gets very excited, his stims obviously get bigger, he tends to unclench and clench his fists a lot, as well as wave his whole arms around instead of just his hands - he might also move his body in back-and-forth or circular motions while doing this.
When angry, stressed, or upset - with which he would excuse himself, even if comfortable around someone, because he doesn't like being seen in that state (for actually similar reasons as to why he doesn't stim in front of people he doesn't trust, but also because the way he stims in this vulnerable state feels even more embarrassing, so is a different layer of vulnerability to his excited stims) - he often punches his head a lot, typically by slamming the knuckles of his clenched fists against the top and/or sides of his head. He might also hit his clenched fists together, and slam them down on something like a desk or a table. I don't think he would be at risk of hurting others or damaging objects with his stims, even during a meltdown, but he's at a slight risk of harming himself instead.
I think Gray can hit himself when he's pretty chill too, it's not a stress-only response. It just tends to be much gentler and for much less time when he isn't stressed. He might hit against his chest briefly for no reason he just doing shit /silly
It's also actually pretty easy to tell what is causing Gray distress when he has to excuse himself, and it's quite obvious when he's starting to get overstimulated prior to that too. If it's due to his sensitivity to bright lights and colours, it's often that he will start squinting at what's causing the issue, and avoid looking at it too much - but if it overstimulates him, he will block it from his view with his hands (making it clear that it's a visual issue) before leaving. If it's due to his sensitivity to loud sounds, he will often flinch and wince when the sound occurs, and if he has to leave then he will cover his ears as he does so (making it clear that it's an auditory issue).
When the issue is social interactions, he tries his best to not walk away - he understands that walking away from a social interaction is easily perceived as rude, you're meant to come to a conclusion to the conversation and bid your farewells before you even think of walking away! However, it's often that he'll raise his hands defensively, as if trying to stop the person from coming too close / like he's about to push them away, when he has to walk off. When walking away from a social interaction he can feel especially embarrassed, and will likely avoid the person for a while after.
