This year was extremely difficult and I'll be glad to put it behind me. I didn't post much and I fought to find motivation. I miss cosplay and cons and I'm grateful for all the love that was shown to my Rose and Madam Red. Here's to a better New Year filled with health, hope, peace and prosperity. Day28: Something you made in your comfort zone. USS Langley was a cosplay very much in my comfort zone. I added wefts to the base wig purchased a foam ball and wrapped it in wefts and attached alligator clips all things I have done several times in the past. The plane I found on ebay and I sprayed it with primer and wired it to a headband. I have painted and used wire in other props and accessories I've made. The sweater was an ebay find. The blouse I had. The skirt I had. Tights I bought. I sewed the blue satin ribbon to a red satin ribbon and created the neck bow. I've made a bunch of bows over the years and I've gotten decently good at it😋 The wedge heels where an ebay find. I've worked with foam quite a bit and I was able to create the rudders and weather them to look like metal. The white coat was an ebay find. The riding crop I had from my horseback riding days. Langley was a fun relatively quick build with a fun personality. Also, @allisonthephotographer was perfect. The locations she chose at NYCC and then the colors she brought out fit the character so well! I still would love to do a big build like @lumlionel 's amazing work. I like shipgirls they amuse me. Particularly since my family was so much affected by WWll and my stepfather served in the navy on a destroyer. Day27: Ooh La La~!/Risqué or Most Confident Cosplay I have never felt particularly confident, I think one of the things that attracted me to cosplay was the fact that I could be someone else. Until Rose. I had never felt so at ease, so natural, I didn't even think I was acting/had to do much to be in character. Rose is such an important character to me. Complex, flawed, loving... a hero, a villain, a friend, a mother. There aren't very many plus size women depicted as the hero leader of a revolt. I have never felt represented in pop culture. I often don't relate to the plus size characters presented. I'm not funny, I'm not an amazing singer, I'm not really an actress or any other role that is acceptable for plus size women. Rose gives me someone to relate to, someone to explore and feel included. I am forever grateful to @rebeccasugar for creating her. Representation does matter. Day26: Something you plan to redo someday. The Ghibli movie Howls Moving Castle was one of mine and my Grandmother's favorite movies. I had found a dress and altered it to go with @cuchintachan 's Howl at AnimeNext 2011. I had always wanted to redo it and 5 years ago I had finally put together Sophie's green dress. I wanted to go to the Sakura Matsuri in Brooklyn with my Baba as "old Sophie" but unfortunately later that year Baba had the stroke and everything changed. This year, I wanted to honor Baba and @cuchintachan by getting dolled up and having cute pictures taken together. I know Baba would have loved to see them. Then of course Covid-19 happened and everything went out the window. I hope next year we might make this happen. Also, behold practically the only pictures of my The Silent Card from Cardcaptor Sakura from AnimeBoston's cosplay chess 2014. Day25: Favorite accessories with a cosplay. I guess my favorite accessory is these gloves I made for Mama Ghost from Crimson Peak. I envy @cuchintachan 's long pianist's fingers (mine are short and stubby, thanks Dad) I was a dancer too once upon a time so I'm given to posing with my hands and these gloves allowed me to do that to great effect. Honorable mention goes to Kagura's feather headpiece, Kanna's tail, Saori's headpiece, and Akagi's ridiculous flightdeck. Day23: Favorite makeup that you've done I was so proud of myself for getting Mina's bodypaint even in color and with enough highlight and contour to make it look like I have bubblegum pink skin. I was really surprised how well Merida's makeup turned out. It was the first time I tried to create freckles. The red hair looked better with my skintone then I expected. Athena's beauty makeup was the best I have done so far. Everything just fell into place. It takes me forever to put makeup on. I have a strict traditional family and wasn't allowed to play with makeup until the end of highschool/college. So I'm not particularly skilled and what I've learned I picked up from trial and error and youtube tutorials😋 I enjoy makeup and its fun to be creative and experiment. Day22: A cosplay you still need good photos of. I'd love photos of casual Merida. I wore her to ColossalCon East and NYCC. I can't wait to wear and take pictures as Dominique the Cyclops from Trigun. I wore her for like 5 seconds at AnimeBoston years ago. Also, @rellamphoto was kind enough to take some photos. I'd love to see those, please Jefe? I'm really excited to have Sophie Hatter put together. I would love to do a location shoot with my gorgeous Howl, @cuchintachan I'd love to have photos of Avatar Kyoshi. I'd love photos of Suiseiseki and to try to get @cuchintachan to be my Souseiseki. I want to redo her wig now that I'm more comfortable and have more skills. I made Nurse Lucoa a while ago but I just never got to wear her anywhere so I don't have any photos at all. I'm a lot better at bodypaint now so I'd love pictures of Sadness with @cuchintachan as my Joy. We were very popular at NYCC that year.🤣 Oh Akagi. I would love photos of Akagi preferably somewhere with water. Unfortunately, I need a handler. Akagi has so many accessories and props and things that I feel like a walking coat rack. Day21: Favorite photo of a cosplay. I don't really have a favorite photo. These past few years I've been very fortunate to be able to afford to work with talented photographers. The shoot as Rose just came together effortlessly. The weather was gorgeous, the photographer was kind, gave good direction and was able to edit the photos to get this fabulous very Steven Universe like candy colored pallette. @vinhfx I have been wanting photos of my Madam Red since AnimeNext was still in Sommerset NJ. Last year I got to attend ColossalCon East (its become my vacation con) and had beautiful photos taken by @depthoflightphoto The weather was overcast and leant itself so nicely to moody photos. I'm in love with these photos. I'll always be in debt to @chezphotocosplay for taking photos of Athena at Anime Boston several years ago. They are the first photos in which I thought myself beautiful. I'll always treasure them. I met the exceedingly sweet and talented @allisonthephotographer and I am so in love with my Langley photos thec colors are beautiful and her direction is clear and allows for such beautiful results. Also, I will be forever in her debt for the Snow White and Cinderella shoot. My Cinderella is as shy and unassuming as she is beautiful and I have never seen her captured so beautifully confident.
