My ferret setup in all its glory
This is the top level of their cage.
These is all of Terra’s treasure. I refer to them as little dragons sometimes because they just hoard toys and never actually do anything with them.
This is the bottom level of their cage, Note the little white dish in the back, its full of raw chicken.
These are the lengths I’ve had to go to to keep Terra from climbing out of their pen during playtime.
This is where I hang their harnesses and collars when they aren’t wearing them. We fully intend on using their harnesses for trips to the park more when it cools down again (I live in the desert).
This is their dig box. They all use it but Cooper loves it the most, by far.
He was more than happy to demonstrate.
Well there you have it! My full setup. Feel free to ask me any questions about what I use or would recommend. Follow for more cute ferrets & good ferret information.
This is my rescue ferret, Hiccup. He is a champagne mitt and to be honest I think he has the cutest face of all my ferrets. I think Cooper is very handsome, and Terra is truly beautiful, but Hiccup just has that teddy bear face that makes you melt a little when you look at it.

One of the best things I ever did for Cooper was getting him Terra. I wanted her, but he needed her. My third year of college Austin had to leave a couple months early to come back here, so it was just me and Cooper for a while. He was okay until I got a part-time job on top of school and I was suddenly gone for several hours at a time. He started following me around the house when I was home and breaking out of his cage when I wasn’t. I quickly realized that Cooper was lonely, and vowed to get him a friend as soon as could afford to. A few months later, when I walked into the petstore l saw four 4-month-old kits, where I found Cooper a year before. There were two boys and two girls, but I was only interested in the girls. Ferrets typically get along better with the opposite sex than the same sex ferret. I wanted to make it easy for myself, and also girls are just different, I wanted variety. Of the two girls one was beautiful and interesting in pattern, I had never seen anything like her before. The other looked like what you would expect a ferret to look, very classic. There was a catch though, I couldnt choose yet. I had to wait a week because they were being marked down by 50% on my birthday. I could have just bought the one I wanted but the fact that the sale started on my birthday gave me pause. I also rationalized that if the petstore told every other person interested in them about the sale, they would probably wait too. So I vowed to come back when they open on Saturday and get one then. I frequently called the petstore and inquired about how many ferrets they still had, because I didn’t want to miss my chance. Everything was going good until Friday, when there were only 3. I inquired further about the remaining ferrets and the told me that the remaining girl was “just a standard ferret.” I look back on that with total indignation, because Terra is anything but ordinary. She is the opposite of Cooper in many ways. Where he is stoic she is sensitive. Where he is relaxed she is lively. Where he is unassuming, she is a princess. And though I love and respect her for her sweet & spicy personality, I cannot help but be captivated by her beauty. She carries herself with a grace that makes my boys look like big oafs, and I think her “standard” markings are gorgeous. Though Terra can be very sweet, she has an attitude problem. When she was younger she hissed all the time, and for all kinds of reasons. She hissed at her brother, at her toys, at inanimate objects, and even at us when we just walked toward her too quickly. She’s grown out of it since then, but she’s still very prissy. That’s why we call her Princess Terra. Tiny Terra is also incredibly intrepid in that she will climb just about anything. She’s my little escape artist. I had to get rid of my last cage after she finally figured out how to slip out of it, and I just finished modifying their playpen so she can’t climb out of that anymore. She also used to kick my roommates cats out of their cattree, when she’d climb up the back of it and onto the coveted highest platform. I’ve also had to pull her out of the -thankfully empty- kitchen trash can before, a feat only she can pull off.

I got Cooper in September of 2013. He was six months old and had probably been in that petstore for most of his life, but I have reason to believe that he was handled often as the guy who sold him to me had 3 himself. Also both of my ferrets that came from there are very sweet. Cooper is a black roan or “silver” ferret. His black and white guard hairs create a salt and pepper effect that changes as he ages. Each time he sheds he gets whiter. Someday he’ll be a dark-eyed white. Cooper was quite the little rascal when he was young, but now he’s 3 years old and he’s mellowed out a lot. He still plays with his siblings but he doesn’t get up to much trouble anymore. Now he spends his time out mostly lounging around and sleeping. But dont let that fool you into thinking Cooper’s a pushover. He’s the “alpha” and the other two know it. Coop is in charge of putting the away the squeaky toy and letting us know when it’s been too long since they’ve been out (he scratches). He also occasionally “cleans” by dragging everything from scraps of cloth to clothes to blankets into whatever hidey hole he’s chosen to sleep in; we call this nesting. All of these things he does with a fevered insistence that is unmatched by my other ferrets. He also comes to his name and frequently perks up when someone is just talking about him. His favorite things are bananas and chocolate, neither of which he can have. He also loves his raw meat and raw eggs. Any time I’m in the kitchen preparing his food he’s there at my feet, watching me and waiting for me to take it to his cage. When I do he’ll follow me. Now that I have a play area I have to step over the playpen fence to get to the cage and Cooper follows me to the fence and waits for me to pick him up. I would do anything for Cooper, and I have done everything I can to give him a kick ass life. Follow for more on ferrets and specifically more on my ferrets.
Cooper is a butt.

I’m going to lose it waiting to hear back from this fucking job. I want to work so bad, I’d do anything to get out of this funk. I’m tired of waking up to the same question, “What do I do when nothing seems worth doing?” I’m running out of ideas.
