Last night I finished watching Islands, the latest Adventure time mini series.
It was quick, only 6 episodes if I remember correctly (I may be wrong here, please let me know if I am). I love Adventure Time. I love Susan Strong. And I love BMO. If you also love these things, then you will enjoy Islands.
Its was fast; it felt like Finn had an opportunity to look for human life and then bam suddenly there he was with them. Stakes seemed to be paced better in my opinion, but I still enjoyed the story. With the next season being the last, they definitely are starting to tie up any loose ends.
Finn searches for his mom (who, ugh, I had always hoped would be Susan Strong), and even Susan’s story gets wrapped up. I didn’t like what they did with Finn’s mom, I was hoping for something more for Finn. I don’t know what exactly, but...something more. Something to hold on to, which you will understand if you’ve watched it all.
I couldn’t stop watching and watched every episode back to back. It did try to give us some insight on BMO’s hopes and dreams and maybe even how he sees himself in one episode. It also left us wondering if Finn’s dad wasn’t the horrible man he was shown to be earlier.
I can’t wait to see more and finally understand Finn’s parents story fully. Maybe next we can get a miniseries to give Ice King some closure?
I know...I know...this movie has been circulating Facebook for months. And in my defense, there have been plenty of nights where I almost watched it.
But last night I finally did, and...well...it was good. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t amazing, but it was good.
As soon as it started my boyfriend said, “Is this one of those things where they switch bodies?” and I replied with, “I don’t think so, I think it’s a love story.” Well. It was both LOL. And even though we caught on early that it was a mix of the two, the story line still caught me off guard.
The story has a bit of a plot twist, but I was disappointed when it didn't give me the emotional stomach drop I was looking for. I had heard rumors that this movie was gonna be a real tear jerker. I am a crier, and I shed no tears.
Although I was disappointed with the emotional aspect (and I might be the only one who was), I loved the art style. I knew it had climbed it’s way quickly to the top four Japanese animated movies of all time, right up there with a few Miyazakis.
Please just take a moment to look at the gif above. Seriously, look at it. It’s gorgeous. And every other scene in the movie was animated just as beautifully. In any place the movie was lacking, it made up for it artistically.
Anyways, the point I’m struggling to get across with this is that the movie is definitely worth the watch. It’s something new, it’ll catch you off guard, and leaves you feeling good.

So last night I watched Anomalisa with out knowing a single thing about the film ahead of time. Let me just start off by saying this moving was super fucking weird LOL.
For a stop motion animation, the film was incredibly realistic. It definitely was the most human movie of 2015. But in my opinion, that just made it super creepy.
As you can see in the movie poster, their faces are put together in pieces. It gives them a very mannequin feel. The movie follows a famous author through his two night stay in Cincinnati, and you get extremely up close and personal views. I definitely wasn’t expecting to see a stop motion penis...
The movie didn’t shy away from sex scenes just because it was a stop motion. Not only was there a full out sex scene, but it was uncomfortably long. Very up close and personal.
I honestly don't even know what to say about this movie. It was definitely deep; it played on how distant he is from those around him and how desperate he is to find someone who can stand out to him. But at the same time it was rather super uncomfortable for me to watch.
I loved seeing a stop motion film directed towards adults, but I can’t think of any way to describe this movie with out the words “weird as fuck”.
I finally watched The Little Prince last night! Directed by Mark Osborne, it was such a seamless combination of 3D and stop motion animation.
The transition above was one of the few that really blew me away. What a gorgeous way to go from stop-motion back into 3D animation! It really allowed the writers to put a fairytale into another make-believe story and make it feel real in a whole other way.
The movie its self way slow paced in the beginning, but I think that was important to the story overall. The artists didn’t stray away from playing with color in any of the scenes either. The settings clearly set the stage for each mood and feeling that was going to step into the room.
As the little girl read the story of the prince, we listened and learned along with her. It’s an amazing story for anyone who’s recently gone through the loss of a loved one, whether they’re a child or an adult.
The only thing I felt the movie really lacked was even more stop motion scenes. Towards the end the prince is shown in 3D animation. I was disappointed to see that they hadn’t continued his setting in stop motion, but thinking about it now...maybe that was to make him feel more real.
Either way the stop motion in this moving was absolutely stunning to say the least. With 3D animation being so popular now, it was cool to see them incorporate stop motion in such a playful, creative way. I was also super stoked to hear bits and pieces of french left in the movie, from the written pages of the story to the music played in the Aviators car. They were beautiful small touches.
** SPOILER **
Maybe the reason why, when the little girl meets the prince, they are in 3D animation is because he is real (even if just to her) and no longer a part of a story she was reading. Thinking about it that way, it’s even more beautiful that they transitioned it back to 3D.
I loved this movie and would recommend it to anyone!
