I’m the youngest sister, but growing up with so many boys makes you tough. You get teased. There’s no tiptoeing around each other. You say it the way it is; you’re honest
yeounghwan:
After the nuisances gave their own apologies, Young-Hwan shooed them away, putting his hands into his pockets when they were gone. He contemplated the cabin’s fate gravely as Kaia graciously suggested that he have mercy on them. Gazing at her steadily, he replied, “You’re right; but I never played around with my abilities.”
He motioned with a tilt of his chin to look at the green-eyed teenagers running around yet again with spell books in their hands. Seeing this, his eye twitched.
Putting his hands on his face, he took a deep breath in and let it out slowly, highly tempted to groan in frustration. He wasn’t even the cabin counselor - why did he have to babysit a bunch of monsters? When he dropped his hands, he visibly relaxed as he returned his focus to Kaia, eyes softening.
“I’m glad that you’re not hurt,” he admitted, flashing a small smile. “I’ll go take care of them quickly.” Pausing, he added, “Do you want to do something later?”
Kaia laughed a little at the look on her friend’s face when he realized the Hecate kids were fooling around again and she mindlessly leaned against her covered instrument. As stern as he could be sometimes, the fact that he was so visibly flustered meant he cared at some level and it was endearing.
“I feel that way with some of my siblings, too. There’s a new one that’s discovered cursing and I’ve run into at least ten people who are stuck speaking in rhymes for the next few weeks.”
She tilted her head to the side a bit when he relaxed and met his gaze again, returning his smile easily. “I’d love to. I have a feeling the sunset’s going to be a stunner this evening if you want to go see it with me.”
yeounghwan:
Mortified by his absolutely asinine cabin, Young-Hwan brushed a tense hand through his hair. She didn’t get hit, but if she did - he would reserve a special place in hell for them, later.
He jogged towards her, silently cursing his younger half-siblings for messing around with the more difficult spells. What really pissed him off was that their coma-inducing magic hurtled directly towards Kaia, someone he spent quite some time with when he looked for restorative peace amidst the chaos that was Camp Half Blood.
He exhaled irritably at her casual thanks, deeply bowing his upper body in apology. “I’m very sorry about that - those morons, they don’t have an ounce of common sense in their empty heads. I should have kept a closer watch.” What a damn bother, he thought, irises flickering emerald for good measure.
Kaia shot Young-Hwan a sympathetic smile, reaching down to pull up the case for her harp. He looked flustered and frustrated and she felt a little bad for the verbal thrashing his siblings would probably have to endure later on.
“I’m fine, nobody got hurt. It was just a close call. That’s what this camp is for, after all. I can’t tell you how many arrows I’ve nearly shot into Chiron’s rear end because I wanted to try something different.”
She pulled the zipper up and then stood, shooting a smile at the sheepish-looking campers watching her and Young-Hwan interact. “Go easy on them. I’m sure you’ve done some risky things without thinking them through.”
noamariarodriguez:
Noa came racing down to the girl and came to a halt in front of her. “No problem, my brothers are idiots,” she replied with a nod, glancing back at the group of Ares boys that had been responsible for the hurtling rugby ball. “Would’ve been a waste of an infirmary trip, getting hit by my idiot brother’s rugby ball,” she rolled her eyes as she moved to retrieve the ball.
Kaia rested a hand on her instrument and glanced down at the ball. “Brothers. Can’t live with them, can’t live without them. They’re alright, though. I should probably move anyways.”
rowanofnike:
Being the kid of Nike and a trained martial arts athlete, the brunette had plenty experience with hand to hand combat. Especially when she’d been coming to camp since her eleventh birthday. Grinning, Rowan advanced and made a swing for Kaia’s stomach.
Kaia was good enough at dodging; she inherited grace and speed from her father. Her problem was when she went on offense. It looked like Rowan barely moved a muscle when Kaia reached out to try and kick out her knees and yet Kaia was the one lying on the floor, shoulder blades and hips aching somewhat miserably. “Okay,” she said in a breathless grunt. “What did I do wrong that time?”
Kaia had a strong preference for being outdoors most of the time and it wasn’t unusual for her to drag her harp out and find a quiet spot near the lake to practice. Her mind was at peace and her fingers were dancing faultlessly over the strings until she heard someone shout and looked over just in time to duck and avoid being smacked on the face by an unidentified flying object. Once she caught her bearings she gave the other person a look before breaking into a smile. “Thanks for the heads up.”
rowanofnike:
“Are you here to train or did you just want to chitchat and gossip like an old lady,” Rowan teases the other with a smirk. “It’s either one or the other, pal.”
Kaia examined Rowan’s posture and the way she held herself, like she had been their entire conversation, and tried to figure out why she was always so much better at one on one than Kaia. Beyond natural talent, that is. “Sorry, sorry,” she replied, shifting her body into the position she’d been trained for years to hold. “When you’re ready.”
harrisonreids:
“Look- I’m fine,” Harrison groaned as he lowered his ice pack just enough so he was able to clearly see the person standing in front of him. “It’s just a minor periorbital hematoma,” he explained with a small sigh as he slowly recovered his eye. Truthfully the black eye was painful and embarrassing but he really didn’t want to explain that. “There’s some edema, but no major side affects. It’ll be gone in about a week or so, so you really don’t need to worry,” he pleaded with the person. Of course- he didn’t stop to think that the person might not care about whether or not he’s okay- they might simply be staring at his eye. Or maybe they were wondering how he got it.
Kaia had been on her way back from practice, her bow and arrows strapped to her back, when she came upon one of Athena's kids sitting on a bench look rather downtrodden and holding an ice pack to his eye. Her sympathetic and questioning smile turned to a thoughtful frown when she saw his black eye. “A week? Why didn’t you come to me? I can fix it right now if you want. Unless you want to keep it. In that case, I can just make the pain go away.”
arabellenoel:
“mon chou,” arabelle laughed as she covered her mouth in surprise at the other. “you’re not supposed to put the batter in the oven just yet!” she invited them over so they could bake some brownies together, planning to enchant them in the end as to produce an ambrosia-like effect. it was questing season, and she wanted to help keep the stocks high for her fellow campers.
“what? are you sure? this looks pretty done to me,” kaia replied in confusion, bringing the bowl back to arabelle and away from the pan she’d been ready to pour the batter into. but she confused expression melted into a smile almost immediately and she laughed a little. “flour. right. how could i forget flour?”
