Elk stopped when asked, releasing his hand and whirling around to make sure they were okay. There was enough distance between them now that there could be no immediate danger, but Elk can’t help fixating on the why’s and the how’s as the big purple machine drones towards the ocean. “Mm, ‘m sorry! It was just that, you were going to get stepped on, maybe, and I didn’t think you would like that very much.” “Um…” Elk shuffles his feet, unsure what to say or do now. “I don’t think that happens here very often, hm…” He hopes it doesn’t, anyway. Elk hasn’t seen anything like it himself, and he has seen a variety of horrific, large-scale monsters.
“Um,” he starts again. “You’re okay, right? That’s good…” Elk strums his fingers together as his voice trails off.
Eyes drift back along the horizon, watching as the spot of purple travels farther and farther away. Where the hell was it even going-- It doesn’t matter, Arata decides only a moment later. It’s not truly affecting him so... ehh.
His attention is brought back to the smaller, noting the timidness in the others movements. The way their voice broke off, reminds him of some small, terrified puppy. It’s a bit cute. But he’s worried that whole experience might’ve been a bit traumatizing. How old is this kid anyways?
Arata’s got a solution, digging into his inner jacket pocket, before discarding a colorfully wrapped lollipop. He’s hesitant, as though this might be some heartfelt goodbye to a piece of candy, but he figures this kid might need it more.
“ Eat this. Sugar calms the nerves... I think. ”

If it weren’t for Ken’s generosity and kindness, Elk would feel unwanted here–more than he already does, anyway. He has yet to get used to the island and its inhabitants, but it was proving to be a challenge that was exhausting and all the more daunting without Mia’s support. That didn’t mean Elk didn’t completely hate it, though. It’s not much different from The World as far as jerks go, and he felt more at home now that flowers had begun to bloom literally everywhere–through cracks in the sidewalk and even through buildings and cars that have been parked for too long. It sounded like something beneath the ground ruptured. Elk almost thought nothing of it, until a flock of birds called and rose like clouds from the surrounding trees. Then there was another rumble, much closer than before. Elk turned, dread filling his chest. It was surreal–almost alien–but the quiet stillness had given way for some kind of colossal robot moving against the skyline in the distance. Its appearance alone was alarming; definitely topping the stranger things Elk has witnessed on the island. Elk freezes anyway, blinking several times to confirm that this was real and that he hadn’t sniffed up some hallucinogenic pollen by mistake–and that the robot was, in fact, moving in this direction. Panicked, Elk stutters on his feet–but then realizes someone else is here. Elk would feel really bad if he let him get stepped on. Mia wouldn’t be very happy with him, either. “Mister! Hey, Mister!” Elk calls out as he approaches, but is surprised and almost annoyed to see that the person seems to be sleeping through this.
“Please, get up! There’s, ah– um…!” Elk sputters, not sure how to explain that a fifty-meter tall robot is waking this way when it really should be obvious enough on its own. Instead, Elk reaches for the stranger’s hand and yanks him away from being squished, running quickly and with no intention of stopping any time soon.
The subtle vibrations were more soothing than bothersome, having not depicted what could be the cause of it. When his eyes do meet those of the smaller dude, the image of something bright purple does flicker as a danger into the pinkett’s mind.
Even as he begins to rise to his feet, the boy beats him to it, dragging him off and out of harms way. It felt dumb, like some horror movie, to be pulled away so hastily-- just as he was ready to fall asleep completely. But there is gratefulness in his eyes, not even turning back to watch as the strange purple machine treads its way along.
“ Stop, stop-- ” Arata finally says, panting as they’ve seemed to run a good few meters from the direction of whatever-the-hell-that-was. It doesn’t seem to be seeking-and-destroying so... it would be a safe bet to believe they’re fine where they are now.
This gives Arata a moment to keel over with a free hand resting on his knee, attempting to catch his breath. What a wake-up call. There’s a light huff, head turning upwards, before he manages to start breathing correctly again.
“ Um... thanks, I guess...? ...Wonder what that was all about... ”
It’s half past noon. The light breeze only picks up to rustle the trees for a moment before dying down just as quick as it had begun. It’s quiet. It’s warm. And all too easy of a chance to doze off through mid-thought.
Even as tempting as a nap may seem outside in the warm sun, Arata’s resisting with all his might. Even though he has nothing of value on his person, there is still a risk of getting drawn on or some other weird ass incident to occur to him. He’s not even sure how “ friendly ” the residents on this little hunk of rock could be. He hasn’t taken the time to really become acquainted with anyone. Nor cared, for that matter.
But that certainly doesn’t mean he’s opposed of doing so, when chance should happen upon a rather short individual coming into his personal bubble. Apparently, Arata had been staring off into space, still and silent but now disturbed when this new face happened to approach.
“ ...Huh...? Did you... say something...? ”

With all of these flowers sprouting like there’s no tomorrow, it’s hard not to doze off in such a quiet setting. It’s like something pulled right out of a goddamn story book-- without the oh so romantic princess in the castle kind of get-up.
Even if there was a princess around, it’s not going to stop the bubblegum nerd from taking a nap in the middle of the flower fields. It’s just too peaceful to pass up.

"'Cause everything is never as it seems."
"I can finally see that you're right there beside me."
"When we're apart, whatever are you thinking of?"
"Oh, I tend to disappear here and there."
"Time together is just never quite enough."
"You can go anywhere you wish 'cause I'll be there, wherever you are."
"But I still have just one more question on my mind."
"You and I left our troubles far behind."
"What will it take to make or break this hint of love?"
"Please don't let me go! I desperately need you!"
"When I think of you, I don't feel so alone."
"I'm dreaming of the life I once loved."
"All I need is you by my side."
"And rest assured, 'cause dreams don't turn to dust."
"So tell me, darling, do you wish we'd fall in love?"
"But I'll miss your arms around me."
"Reality is a lovely place, but I wouldn’t want to live there."
"All these heavy thoughts will try to weigh you down."
"Please take me away from here."
"You've got nothing to say to me,'cause you're not the blinding light that I need."
"I knew you were wide awake!"
"There was a shot in the dark, I was caught by surprise."
"You gotta know that you tear me up."
"And there was nothing to say 'cause you made up your mind."
"So shine no matter where you are."
“ Hm... ”
You know what sucks? The fact that you’ve only arrived to some sketchy looking island, like... sometime yesterday and now you’re back to square one in wondering what the hell was going on. A gloved hand scratches his chin, taking a glance from side to side. There doesn’t seem to be anyone up at these early hours of the morning--
Well... at least he’s still got his personality, if not any company.
