Lifting tips for Jo Ann Fabric and Crafts
I used to work at Jo Anns so I figured why not share some tips. Be aware this is for the location I worked at so your mileage may vary
Cameras There aren’t very many cameras. There’s a real time monitor at the door, a couple at the registers, 2 domes on the fabric side, 2-3 domes on craft side and another real time monitor in the jewelry section
SAs All of the employees wear headsets.During the day in the middle of the week theres usually only 3-4 in the store. One cashier, one on the cutting counter, (sometimes) one zoning on craft side, and the MOD (manager on duty) On weekends or after 5 in the evening there could be anywhere from 4-7 SAs in the store and up to 2 managers We were never trained on the shoplifting policy but we were told to “keep an eye on teenagers and shifty people”
Not sure where to put this one so it’s going here Managers are the only ones who watch the cameras because they’re the only ones with a key to the office. If its busy 99% of the time the MOD will be on the floor and not in the office.
If its pretty slow the cashier is supposed to put back returned or unwanted items and usually cant see the door so thats your best time to get out
Again this is just for my store so yours may be different
LIFTING TIPS FOR PAC SUN
Ok sorry for the long post but I don’t have a computer available so I can’t use read more. I work there so this is what I’ve gathered there. Be wary; this all applies to my store and may not apply to yours. First off, we use gator tags on everything except big brands like Diamond. I suggest using the rubber band method for the gator tags. Higher priced items use ink censors. Lemme tell you about these sensors. My fiancé also works there and he hit the sensor as hard as he could with a box cutter and it didn’t break. Also my manager told me that the censors don’t release ink when you pass the towers and don’t even make the towers go off. (I haven’t tested it myself. Take this with a grain of salt). My store leaves the dressing rooms open, doesn’t count your items, and doesn’t have cameras. When it’s not busy, the employees sit around the counter and talk. Main tips are - take more than what you want in the dressing room - remove the gator tag in the dressing room and put it in your bag - leave what you don’t want in the dressing room. That way if they ask you can say you left it there and there will be clothes to prove it - the only way I can think of failing is by acting suspicious or not removing all the censors REMEMBER THIS ONLY APPLIES TO MY STORE. YOURS MAY BE DIFFERENT. but to sum it up it’s ridiculously easy

If you’re wanting to load up at these two stores I figured out a plan yesterday watching this group rob these stores blind lmao.
1. First person goes in by themselves and asks the SA (make sure you go at a time when there’s only ONE SA so they have to focus on you) if they will pierce their ears.
2. SA takes you to piercing station and is busy helping you with paperwork and getting everything ready - meanwhile 1-2 other people that you know but act like you DO NOT KNOW come in and start browsing.
3. As the first person is dealing with the SA the other people can fill up their bags without being watched.
Yesterday when I got my ears re-pierced a group of four girls I legitimately didn’t know came in and I just sat there for 15 minutes and watched them literally rob that fucking place and I wanted to high five them so bad.
As an aside (REMEMBER EVERY STORE IS DIFFERENT) I know one Claires in a high shrink area's dome above their register was fake. I was security at the time so.. Take that as a grain of salt, always think someone is watching, but its pretty easy from there.

The goal with lifting is NOT:
“Make it out of the store without being apprehended”
Instead, it is:
“Make it out of the store without leaving any trace you ever lifted anything, without being apprehended”
Cause let’s say you need to go back to the store at some point in the future, for legitimate shopping or lifting. If you’ve left evidence behind (empty packaging, concealing on camera etc), the SA’s will know more likely than not. They will remember you. So they next time you come in, you will get customer serviced to death - which is every lifters worst nightmare, and equally annoying to legitimate shoppers.
Lifting is a crime. As with any crime you commit, the LESS EVIDENCE YOU LEAVE/GIVE THE BETTER.
Remember this. Say it in your head, write it down 50 times, do affirmations in the mirror, whatever.
Cause I’ve been seeing new lifters share their stories and no offense to yall (some of yall even admit it lol) and their lifts were sloppy as hell and left a fuck ton of empty packaging behind.

I highly recommend this book to everyone, but especially criminals.
The identity of the author isn’t known, but it’s very clear that it’s a white man writing it…so if you’re a POC, the information in here is factual and worth reading, but wether or not you feel safe enough to practice anything he says in here is up to you. There’s a few things in there he says that I would literally never suggest any POC do so yeah use your discretion.
It has 17 chapters.
Chapters 6-10 go through each step of dealing with police, from the initial contact, to the detention, to the search and seizure, to the arrest and after the arrest: the interrogation.
It’s extremely useful and I feel a lot more comfortable at least knowing the info.

Please please PLEASE if you’re going to take something,
1. Take the whole damn box with you
2. Don’t leave tags/boxes/anything in your blindspot, and
3. For christ’s sake don’t put the empty box back where it was on display!
Not only does it leave a really obvious trail of evidence, but it’s frustrating for other customers and I’m sure for the staff as well. If you do that often enough the staff will definitely notice. And if you trash up your blindspot, the staff will catch on and soon enough you won’t have that lovely spot anymore, and neither will anyone else who happens to try and lift at that store. Make like a ghost and leave without a trace okay? Also it lowkey pisses me off to be reaching for a palette that I’m going lift, only to find that the box is already empty, just saying.
