Interpreted this initially not as shelves, but as your cat having erected defensive fortifications
no but the ââaiââ boom is crazy bc they made the entire internet so shitty that the only reason to use it is because itâs where all the people are and now theyâre getting rid of the people. like iâm straight up logging off and going to the library thereâs nothing on here anymore
âhereâs how to tell if an image is aiâ âsigns the person youâre talking to is a botâ âhow to tell if a song is ai generatedâ ah but consider this: i am shutting my laptop and walking outside
I saw a bsky post last year where someone said their grandma couldn't tell what was real on the internet anymore so she stopped using it and I really, genuinely think the techbros currently ruining everything have never even considered that possibility. their projections and pie charts and market share research and whatever simply do not take into account a scenario where people lose interest in being online. like yeah we're pretty much all gonna keep using the internet to book travel and look up words and order pizza, but in terms of how we spend our leisure time? I'm still extremely online, but in the last few years I've been learning candlemaking and carpentry and sewing, and I was already spending a lot of time cooking and reading books and skating at the rink and hiking, and an afternoon spent on any of those things always leaves me feeling better about myself than an afternoon spent doomscrolling. I think my daily life is going to keep reflecting that more and more as the slop encroaches, and it sounds like I'm far from the only one feeling that way. silver lining to everything, I suppose.

i think this is the funniest possible image that could be used to illustrate this subject
OK FUN FACT i also thought this picture was hilarious when i encountered it a few months ago, so i was curious how it ended up on wikipedia
it turns out the uploader is in fact the woman in the photo (she's uploaded a few other pictures of herself to other articles) and she ran an extremely web 1.0 site on the topic of bondage
this was apparently a long-standing fantasy of hers and she in fact did an entire video plus accompanying photoshoot about it, which was run in a bondage magazine in the 90s and did in fact take place on an abandoned train track. they committed to the bit hard enough that there's even a shot of the sinister villain looming over her with a big document labeled DEED and a pen
the best part is that according to this page, there were two "villains" involved (the woman's two partners, apparently), and the other one was dressed as a gorilla. sadly there are no images of the gorilla kidnapper because that sounds like. even funnier.
anyway i thought this whole thing was kinda cute, lol
All these industries with shortages of workers and they canât figure out why.
Im proposing the hypothesis that the reason we donât have enough doctors/pilots/bus drivers/etc is that maybe, just maybe, having your entire industry function as a lifelong hazing ritual isnât the best recruiting strategy.
Doctors are subject to 8 years of post-secondary education and are forced to work 48 hour shifts.
Pilots and other transportation workers have absurd hours of service requirements that start your rest period as âthe moment you shut the vehicle downâ and can be as short as 9 hours in some cases.
Railroad workers have to be available on-call 6 days a week and be ready within two hours notice. They donât get sick time.
Retail workers have to keep a veneer of politeness against any and all abuse or they can be fired.
Truck drivers get paid by mileage and rarely see pay for shipper or receiver delays.
Work should not be designed to make you a miserable burnout and yet here we are.

I hate when king arthur has all these fussy little steps in the instructions and you're like "no way do these fussy little steps matter" but you try it and they do. they matter so much.
I thought you meant Camelot quests and I was like "that's fair, 'never pick a four leaf clover on the last Wednesday of the month' IS a fussy little step that shouldn't matter" but then I was like "wait isn't that also a flour company"
nooo I am not a beleaguered knight of the round table I am making elaborate focaccia đ

Do you think tumblr will ever learn the difference between âIâm defending this person because I agree with them wholeheartedly and I am also like this personâ and âIâm defending this person because your behavior is dangerous and you need to stopâ
IMO, blurring the lines between âIâm defending them because theyâre rightâ and âIâm defending them because youâre taking this too farâ is step numero uno to cutting down the very existence of fair trial and democracyâeven in places where saying that might seem a little dramatic.Â
Mob mentality is extremely strong in humans and itâs also extremely dangerous. Mobs donât think things through. Mobs kill and they destroy and they canât be reasoned with. Someone trying to calm a mob down isnât someone defending the ~problematic party~ Itâs time we re-learn that.
