About AI in Entertainment Media

The first few movies and games that use AI are the most important ones to AVOID. If we make our distaste for generative AI known as early as possible, it’ll be easier to shut down the industry’s idea that they can get away with it.

It’ll be a LOT HARDER to avoid AI if we let studios think it’s okay to the point where it’s in everything.

Claiming defeat too early is how companies get away with scummy practices. Deciding that “it’s inevitable” before even TRYING to resist it could damage the creative industry irreparably.

So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have a backbone. It doesn’t matter how exciting a new movie’s concept may seem if it’s made up of slop that’s trained on other people’s copyrighted work with no compensation.

The future of our creative industries is far more important than 2 hours of pleasure. (Especially when there are countless other movies you can watch.)

We’ve got more than a taste of slop on social media. It’s miserable. Do you really want our entertainment media to be next?

I’d be fine with AI if it wasn’t trained on stolen intellectual property, didn’t decimate the job market, didn’t induce AI psychosis, wasn’t forced into every piece of new technology, didn’t drown out real content creators, didn’t waste water, didn’t jack up electricity bills, didn’t steal likenesses, didn’t make everyone question reality, wasn’t being used to cheat in school, didn’t impair long-term user’s cognitive abilities, didn’t create unhealthy expectations for real human relationships, wasn’t used to scam, couldn’t un-censor photos of children, couldn’t generate morally foul content, didn’t render video/photo evidence useless in courtrooms, wasn’t designed to be addictive, and WHY IS AI A THING???

New mythology character concept: Cupid, except instead of shooting you with a love arrow, he shoots you with an “I am so cringe” beam while you work on your favorite OC projects.

A girl from a dream I had a couple years ago. I still think about it from time to time.

To summarize, this girl was found cryogenically frozen in an ancient shipwreck. Everyone was amazed by her, a living, breathing piece of history. The folks who found her helped her begin a new life on their own spaceship.

The spaceship herself was actually sentient. She had a motherly presence, frequently checking in on all of her inhabitants. Especially the main character, who was still adjusting to her new reality.

Despite being mansion-sized, the ship’s interior felt claustrophobic. All the doors were sealed. The ship would open them if you asked, but she always closed them right behind you. She refused to leave any doors open, even though it would be more convenient for everyone.

You know how sometimes in dreams, you know things without ever witnessing them yourself? Well, I intrinsically knew that the spaceship kept her doors closed because there was a dangerous creature living aboard, and it would harm humans if given the chance.

The ship couldn’t find a safe way to dispose of it, so she just let it roam her halls and refused to let anyone into whatever room it was in. Nobody was aware of the creature, and the ship intended to keep it that way. She didn’t want anyone to worry.
