Progress report.
Anyway, back at it.
He's done! And it only took me 5 months.
He's almost done.
Back on this. Making good progress on the beard. I bought a single strand punch needle, but this portrait will never see it.
She's nearly done.
I've started thread painting the owl on the left. You can just barely see a bit of texture.
I think this is my thing.
Update - I'm working on the shirt. The order that the rest of this portrait will go is:
Shirt
Blue background
Flower crown greenery
Beard
Beaded purple flower
I bought fancy Japanese needles on a whim and suddenly I can no longer fathom finishing this project without them. I didn't know I was the type of person who could have such a loyalty to something like a brand of needles, but thread painting is so much better with them than without.
17 days to go.
Update:
I've gotten through most of the first of 3 layered colors in the beard. You can only see it on an angle because it's the same color as the photo.
Update:
Now with some beard
I had to take a break to sew the world's fanciest satin-lined, Celosia velvet, galaxy themed cape. Well, I didn't have to, but I did. Still not sure why I needed the cape, but it is vital to my very existence.
The mustache is now mustachier.
Update: The lips and teeth will make more sense when the beard is filled in.
The beard hair is 4 layers of color from dark charcoal gray to white.
Update: flesh tones are almost done.
Need to blend the shine on his rosy cheek more, and a bit more gradient from the nostrils. But the evergreen in the flower crown looks surprisingly realistic.
I cannot wait to start on the beard, but I've set a goal to finish all the flesh tone first.
Patience, Kally. Patience.
Progress.
I'm pretty happy with the blending on the nose.
I've been thread painting. I bought one of those lighted magnifying glasses to wear on a wire around my neck. I have a ways to go on this one, but it makes my brain feel good.
I'm going to write a choose-your-own-adventure style book called "Dear Men, It's Okay If You Want To Cry" and the choices the reader makes will decide if I mean that sincerely or sarcastically.
