If you’re wondering why I randomly reblogged your post I’m so sorry.
I’m not a bot I’m just working on converting my likes into reblogs. So those random Arrowverse crossover or early Mandalorian gif sets? I liked them then and I like them now.

Laura was looking in horror at Marisha’s notes. Probably wondering why the fuck she has that many.
Trent Ikithon is a Bad Researcher
No no, I think I am going to talk about it because it pisses me off personally
I’m a research technician and let me tell you the whole “research” scene in tm9a killed me. (Not because I think it was bad writing or done poorly. I think it absolutely served the narrative purpose of characterizing Trent, Essek, Astrid, and Eadwulf as well as giving us more plot information about the Beacon)
But like…Essek was right. You just killed a guy for nothing!! You’re not taking any notes! You have two perfectly capable research assistants right there and no one is writing anything down! Instead, they’re just clean up crew and subject transport. There are no qualitative notes being taken and no quantitative data being measured either! Do you have any demographic information for your subject? Would the relationship between a subject and a divine source influence the outcome of the experiment? Are you controlling for the way that you kill them? Does killing them with a magical weapon vs a non-magical weapon have an effect? Are you taking into account exhaustion from the researcher opening the beacon? Are you just trying to replicate the first experiment or are you going to change something to actually experiment instead of doing the DEFINITION OF INSANITY?! Are you even making sure that any of this is replicable? Where are your control trials? Or are you comparing what’s happening here to previous consecuted deaths? (Which I doubt there’s any actual research on)
“I am going to create an experiment that is so unethical” Yeah, to do so, you would have had to CREATE AN EXPERIMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!
Anyways, the funniest interpretation of this scene is that Essek was only horrified by Trent’s lack of well structured research protocols.
guy who is more concerned about not using the scientific method than the actual killing people part (aka fanart of this post that made me laugh earlier)
I never understood why you were his favorite. I never betrayed him. I never ran away. Yet, all he wants is to find you.

reality tv shows i think the mighty nein would win
beau - survivor. she can live through anything: poison, hunger, dehydration, etc. i think the challenge for beau would be to not kill the other contestants for being annoying to be honest.
jester - love is blind. she's gonna charm the pants off of everyone, win the season, drop the ball and use the money for her and fjord's second honeymoon
caduceus - masterchef. moves the slowest out of everyone yet still manages to finish on time. refuses to cook any meat or fish and uses substitutes but still doesn't get eliminated because his food tastes so good.
fjord - big brother. he can do well in the social aspect of the game while also being physical enough to win the challenges. he'd never get to be head of household though. will kill a man to win a phone call with jester.
yasha - great british bake off. she might try to add some bugs but with her charm and skills, the judges don't mind at all. bakes her winning creation for beau when her wife returns home
caleb - who wants to be a millionaire. the only game where the only thing you need is smarts. uses his one phone to call to essek to talk about tonight's dinner plans then wins the million.
molly - drag race. would do a killer impression of the ruby of the sea for snatch game. sewing skills unmatched. delivers it all during the rusical. queen.
veth - taskmaster. the quickest with the tasks and finds every loophole there is. somehow every item she brings is something that embarrasses fjord.
essek - the traitors. easily fools the rest of the residents. but secretly throwing up in anxiety every other day. makes it to the final three then forfeits himself out of guilt. fan favorite.
The sheer joy I had seeing Trent Ikythong being absolutely BODIED was astronomical. Then all that joy left like 10 minutes later.
Thats a crazy way to meet your future boyfriend

Recently @essektheylyss and I were speculating on possible ways the Mighty Nein Animated could connect Essek with the rest of the Nein, and Megs suggested that he might witness their beacon acquisition and end up obsessed, pursuing them around Wildemount. I was not able to let go of this idea, so here is a short fic.
Beware of spoilers for episodes 1-43 of campaign 2!
A Hole in the Plan (986 words)
The group of miscreants that have the beacon are on the move again. From the little that Essek can gather, they’re headed to the Menagerie Coast, which would make sense after stealing a powerful magical artifact — except for the fact that it has been three months since their theft and Essek is still the only person in Exandria who knows who they are. Who would steal something as powerful as a beacon and then just remain in the same nation afterwards? The whole thing is baffling.
He can’t scry on the mage, a fact that frustrates him. The blue tiefling is a difficult target, as is the pink firbolg, although at least he can catch them sometimes. He has better luck with the half-orc and the barbarian, enough to get an idea of who they are. The entire group’s dynamic is mystifying. For a band of thieves and mercenaries who have pulled off the single-most impressive heist in a century, they spend no time acting as such. At one point, they use the beacon to win a drinking contest. It's appalling.
He waits for them in Nicodranas with some half-concocted plan to ambush them and get the beacon for himself, but their unpredictable method of decision-making means that, just as he’s perfecting his approach, they leave in the night on a stolen ship. The whole event causes quite a ruckus in Nicodranas; they aren’t subtle, his mercenaries, but they are terrifyingly competent. He wonders for the first time if they know he’s following them. They couldn't have more effectively acted in a way to dodge pursuit if they'd tried.
He tracks them through the Swavain Islands while they make some truly questionable decisions and throw in their lot with a pirate who seems determined to awaken some demi-god. This seems like a bad choice to Essek, but most of their decisions seem like bad choices to him. He attempts to ambush them again, this time on an island that contains a sunken temple, and almost gets himself killed by an angry town of yuan-ti that his mercenaries have left in their wake after defiling their sacred temple. They have a similar disregard for religion as Essek himself; he would almost like them if he didn’t need to kill them. It is impressive, the sheer amount of chaos that always seems to follow them.
infinite possibility.
