to the person who’s reading this,

it’s probably too late for me to tell you all about me, too late for you to know what hurt i’ve been through and what hurt has stuck. so i apologise in advance for every word i omit and every drop of emotion i can’t hold in longer. you signed up for something that has been brewing for longer than even i can remember. and trying to explain it will have me writing for days without end, but here is my first draft. i wont compare myself to a hurricane but i’m the wreckage it has left. i am the broken walls and fallen rooftops, trees uprooted and slung miles away from home. and only in all my chaos will you find me laying without cover, bruises covering my arms and thighs, knuckles bloody and voice gone.

i am not the ocean but the ship wreckage you would find deep inside, and if you care enough, i’ll tell you about every wave that broke me and seeped into the captain’s chamber; the wild beasts i once called my friends.

i come with a lot of baggage, and i don’t bother unpack most of the time — the people i usually meet don’t last but the hurt they inflict never leave me. i am not the beauty but the destruction it has left behind and i am grander and more powerful than all that meets the eye. in me, you will find the stories of heroes who plagued the earth and of villains who wanted nothing more than peace and stability. in me, you’ll find controversy and a world built of shadows. and if you learned to accept me, i will show you more wonders than you could ponder, and you’ll love every single piece of it.

1. I can’t believe you actually love me. The last time I fell for someone the way I’ve fallen for you I got hurt in a way that made me feel like a part of me had died. And maybe it did. They made me believe they loved me, that we’d have a future together. But none of it was ever real. So when you tell me you love me all I can see is a ticking time bomb, counting down the minutes until you break my heart.

2. Before you I didn’t know what fireworks felt like. You kissed me and the world got brighter. When I was growing up my mum always talked about finding the spark. Where they touch you, soemthing as simple as brushing past your arm, and you can feel it all the way down to your toes. I never really thought this spark existed. That is until I met you. You light my entire body on fire and it god damn terrifies me.

3. No ones ever tried to fight for me. I’m easy to leave, something insignificant that people use to waste time. But you, every single day you fight for me, for us. Make sure I know you want me around. Show me for once what being taken care of is actually like. After everything maybe you’re what I’ve been waiting for.

Felt like doing an appreciation post for you all, to let you know how beautiful and loved you are, but i’m gonna try to do something different here. Some of us often make appreciation posts for others, but let’s do one for ourselves. Shall we?

Hear me out, okay?

First of all, breathe in and breathe out.

Now, close your eyes, and keep breathing, counting one minute straight.

Now, look at your hands.

What do you see?

Those are not just hands. They are YOUR hands. They hold your favourite things. They feel the touch, a cold one, and a warm one. They write your favourite poems. They rub your eyes. They touch people you love. They instinctively react when something happens ; when you’re scared, when you’re worried, when you’re suprised…also, they wipe your own tears, touch your own scars. They are you. And they have gone through so much, that’s why they’re so beautiful. Hands dont lie. Hands are the only part of your body that cannot hide your age. They are part of you, so be careful with them, treat them right.

Your legs. Your two soldiers. Who’ve carried you since the first day you learned how to walk. And were there when you were crawling. The ones that made you get up everytime you fell. The ones that still haven’t given up on you. The one’s that never will. Your knees, the ones you fell on so many times, and your feet, the ones that helped you get up again. Don’t overthink their value, don’t overthink their shape, and beauty. They are yours. They’ve been following you your whole life, walked to your favourite places, and helped you getting out of bad ones. You gotta love them. You gotta respect who you are and what YOU do for YOURSELF everyday. It is a big deal.

Now, look in the mirror.

Stare right into your own eyes.

Beautiful, right? Oh, how many tears have they shed? How many times have they closen for your own sake? How many bad things they’ve seen? But oh, how many beautiful people they’ve seen, how many unforgettable pictures they’ve taken, how many unexplainable situation have they witnessed? How many flowers, puppies, babies, cats have they seen? How many colours have they recognized? Oh, on how many things they’ve reminded you, how many memories? They had such a pleasure, to see such a beauty out here in this world, especially the one when they look in the mirror.

Look at your lips forming a smile. And your teeth completing the action. Look at your smile. That brave, strong, independent, beautiful, ethereal, endearing, sweet, adorable, precious smile. It’s all you. How many emotions did it express? How many situations did it make it better? How many times have you faked it though? Pretending like you’re really happy, when you’re simply, really, really not. But how many times was it a honest smile? The one filles with happiness and spontaneous laughter? That beautiful sound of yours.

Look at your belly, the perfect-sized one. And I mean, really, no matter the size or shape, it’s perfect! Think about it on the bright side, about the all yummy, tasty food you’ve eaten. Cakes you’ve tried. Drinks you’ve drank. What about all your little experiments? The crazy combinations? I wouldn’t call it a consequence of “eating too much”. Nah, you’re good. You go ahead, and it whatever you want, as much as you want. It’s YOUR body, YOUR choice. And not just talking about belly, but your whole stomach. What is it, that hides in there, huh? Everything you are, and everything that makes you. Your heart beats inside of it. YOU beat inside of it.

And yeah, this was short, but my point was. Look at you. Look at US. We are all somebody. We’re not somebody’s somebody. We are we, and we are somebody.

It’s our heart that beats inside of our body. - it’s us that beats inside of us.

It’s us that look around and see beautiful people.

It’s us that carry, hold and touch things.

It’s us that run, jump and walk.

It’s us that make someone else’s day better.

i don’t like talking to you anymore:

you’re unhealthy to my smile and i have been fighting to keep it on for the past few weeks.

you’re unable to understand that i want you, but i ceased to need you a long time ago. and i can deal with wanting you; i know that i’ll get over it sooner or later. addictions only take a few month to get past and i’ve already passed the 4 month mark. you’re wonderful when you’re happy and there’s not a care in your word, but even then, you’re all consumed in your world that you don’t see me slowly closing my doors on you. and when my doors are closed, my heart will never open to you again. i can hate your guts just hours after falling out of love with you. i don’t want to have a burden in my life anymore, what i had was enough and i’d rather go back to being me and only me, not and intervention of yous and mes wrapping around each other as if i cannot be a complete person without the parts you threw my way. and i want to stop writing run on sentences when i think of you because when i think of you, i think about every single word you have told me and every single action that didn’t go by that word and i get angry. angry that i couldn’t hold myself before now and angry that you kept leading me on without taking a goddamned breath to relax.
