Saera’s fingertips reached out over the sill by the window. Her gaze fixed on the courtyard below, still awaiting Jon’s return, for a moment, she forgot Kalia was in the room. Her gaze was so fixed, so focused on the northern gate she almost lost herself. Saera turned and looked over her shoulder to Kalia as she spoke, a smile forming on her lips. ‘’Kalia.. I’’ She lifted her fingers to wipe the tears from her cheeks. ‘’I’m so sorry, If I’d have known you were alive..’’ She shook her head. ‘’I saw .. I saw Robb and I just assumed’’ She sobbed softly, clamping her hand over her mouth.
Her bleary eyes followed Kalia over to the cot, she shook her head, letting out a shakey breath. ‘’I fell asleep, and then when I woke up they were all fighting..’’ She followed Kalia over to the crudely made cot that Sam, Grenn and Jon had just about scraped together. ‘’I just took him and ran..’’ She looked back to Kalia. ‘’I took Eddard, I didn’t know what to do but I know you’d want him to be safe..’’
Confusion washed over Kalia as she saw Saera smile, something she didn’t think she would ever be able to do in relation to the events being spoken about. “No. No, it’s better you were safe.” She stopped speaking abruptly at the mention of Robb, swallowing a lump in her throat with a brief closing of her eyes as the image came rushing right back; Robb’s body being paraded around for all to see with his wolf’s head where his should have been. The very image haunted her each and every night since.
“Is he..,” her voice trembled, fearing the absolute worst. “What happened to my son?” She asked as tears stung at her eyes once more. “I have had too many dreams about what might have happened, I need to know. I can take it.” Her words were more reassurance for herself than anything as she reached out and took hold of Saera’s hands in her own, trembling as she did so.
