RACISM FOLLOW UP

The Thinkers Institute went out into the streets of Springfield. We talked to everyone young and old black, white, and other about the issues of racism. We contacted The Springfield Police Department and The Mayor Robert Stephens.  Neither called back to answer the questions I was going to ask so I will put their response as a no comment. We asked a lot of people these questions. What is racism? The dictionary says “ One thinks they are superior to another race or races.” We asked the people How would you define racism? Most people knew the definition or in their own words defined it as being prejudice, ignorance, stereotyping, cruel, and judging someone based on their skin-color Why do you think racism still exist today? Because of how someone was raised, Our family background, It’s being allowed to exist, If a black man and a white man do the same thing at the same time in the same place the black man would be asked to stop or leave before the white man and it’s not fair, and people have closed minds.                                                                                  Why do we try to sweep issues like these under the rug and not deal with them? Because it’s uncomfortable, Because we don’t want to deal with it we hope it will go away on it’s own, It’s a fragile subject, No one wants to admit their faults that their thinking is not correct that they are racist, It’s tough to deal with.                                                                                                                     What is being done about racism? Or should be done to stop it? Sit in’s and protest but those are not always effective, We need to step out of our comfort zones, More organizations are coming, Change our thinking and how we act, All cops should by law be required to wear body cam’s, Nothing is being done but we need to quietly get together come up with solutions and answers, people need to speak out, Get educated,Stricter laws, and more people need to take a stand and say with a unanimous voice we will not put up with this any longer my kids and my grandchildren should not have to face these issues.    When we went out into the street to get these answers were also searching for solutions to the problem. Some were reluctant to talk to us thinking that talking about the problem would make them a target. Most were willing and wanted to see this problem resolved. One guy a former Aryan who joined in prison because he thought he had no choice when he got released went to work he met a black guy from Africa who had invited the white guy over to his home for dinner and to meet his family said. “ I was reluctant to go I made myself go because I wanted to see if I really felt the beliefs that I had had in prison or if I was a product of my environment I went the men were cooking meat and the women were making all the salads it changed my view those people have more culture then anyone I have ever met now I look at everyone as a soul.” This problem can be solved the media plays a big part in blowing the situation  out of proportion. We have to sit down and talk about the issues and come up with real solutions. The police should be required to wear body cam’s that they can’t control that can only be turned on and off by the supervisor. We need to stop thinking that every black person has a weapon and will use it. We need to take the “ N “ word out of every mouth in this country forbid it to be spoken by anyone for any reason. Anyone caught using that word be heavily fined and jailed. Every police department have a more thorough interview and hiring procedures. We can’t change the past but we can prevent this problem in the future by dealing with the issue. We all bleed red. We all feel pain. We all have beliefs. We are all human beings. The color of someone’s skin does not make the man the actions of that person make the man. I am not a judge and I will not judge you by the color of your skin. I pledge to stand up to this injustice I will not put up with this any longer I will not sit quietly by my kids and my grandchildren will not be dealing with this issue.
