I’m scared
As I’ve said, I’m the clinical pharmacist for the COVID-19 unit. Yesterday, I had to go to the grocery store, and I couldn’t believe how hard it was to stay six feet away from people. If they knew, they probably would have avoided me, but they should be that cautious with everyone right now.
I’m scared of society melting down or something. After work, I ate my dinner outside. It was a beautiful day. I pruned some roses, too, and it felt like I re-centered. I’m alive, and chances are, I’ll be alive for the foreseeable future. I am fortunate enough to have economic stability—more than I had a few years ago.
This time will pass. Coronaviruses don’t mutate like influenza, so a vaccine will exist someday. After how this has shaped our society, I’m sure laws will ensure that vaccine deniers won’t keep infecting us—besides, most of us will have immunity from it.
I hope it will pass without overwhelming us in the hospitals, but even if we are overwhelmed, there will come a day when the work slows down again and we’ll have time enough to collapse and cry. We’ll be traumatized, but it will be over.
I feel like I am in love with the heroes who I work with—respiratory therapists more than anyone. All of us terrified but willing to do our best. The stories of Captain America and Wonder Woman really seem shallow and pale compared to my physician coworker, hair frizzy around the edges, trying to be cheerful while waiting her turn to change into clean scrubs in the anteroom.
A better day exists, and most of us will see it. The fact that we forget about that day changes nothing—time passes, and that better day will greet us whether we plan for it or not.

When you pick up power-ups now you see Doomguy’s face reflected on the visor, staring back at you with angry, glowing eyes. I love it. One of my favorite little touches from Metroid Prime is in Doom now.

third day of italian quarantine: everything is closed, everyone is at home and so... WILD BOARS ARE IN MY TOWN WITH THEIR BABIES!!!! i’m laughing so hard
In my hometown a random horse appears.
There’s a horse. LOOSE. during QUARANTINE
There are monkeys, used to being fed by tourists, who are now coming into the city looking for food. Rival gangs of them are fighting over what food they can find.
The Nara deer, the ones who bow for their feed crackers, who would usually be fed by visitors to the park, are wandering out of the park and into strange places in search of food and, presumably, people.
In the absence of humans, animals are moving into spaces they were unable to get to before. Since humans are still around, this isn’t great, but it’s kind of neat to think that if all humans disappeared, animals would not take long to start returning.
