Urs Fischer, You, (2007) Here, Fischer dug a crater in the gallery, removing its concrete level. The architecture of the gallery is altered by cutting, disruption, and destructive transformations. âYouâ simultaneously attacks and fetishizes the attributes of galleries, the qualities that the critic Brian OâDoherty has described as âsomething of the sacredness of churches, the austerity of courtrooms, the mysteriousness of research laboratories, something that, together with stylish designs, makes them unique cultic places of the aestheticâ The violence of Urs Fischer against the architecture destined to the sacral rite of art recalls the lifelong work of our beloved Chris Burden. The last of the eleven towers of the millennial castle of Champtocé in Champtocé-sur-Loire, France. Place of birth of Gilles de Rais, baron, marshal of France, companion-in-arms of Joan of Arc whose distinguished career ended in a celebrated trial for Satanism, abduction, and child murder. His name was later connected with the story of Bluebeard. The building is in very poor condition.
