all the photos of Viva as Gretel McAlbertson in Midnight Cowboy i could find. yeah she’s only in like two scenes (which is why most of these are behind the scenes photos) and has barely any dialogue but I am strangely fascinated by her whole look…she has a thing about her.

Finally reunited

I mean the thing about lance’s chauvinism is that it’s like a game of telephone right. It’s clearly very directly derivative of sokka from avatar, and how, the main “joke” involving sokka and his chauvinism is that he consistently gets shot down and that is funny, I guess. Except voltron misunderstands that the crux of the original punchline is that sokka is a misogynist. and that girls do not like him. Because he is a misogynist. when sokka stops being [quite as] sexist, a girl deigns to like him. the main consistent problem in sokka’s relationship with said girl from then on is the occasional bout of deeper held sexist beliefs.

While lance is most certainly also sexist, his behavior is sexist just in a different way, they scrubbed the explicit nature of this sexism from the text. avatar basically looks dead on at the screen and is like, hey kids, this is misogyny, and it’s bad. meanwhile Lance just objectifies the women in his vicinity and assumes himself as being inherently romantically appealing to them by nature of being male and this is meant to be funny(??) because he’s cringe and awkward about it. like ok. Because Lance’s chauvinism is so removed from any real life context and is so cartoonish and over the top, while also tripping over itself to assure you that Lance ISNT sexist he’s just annoyinggg haha, all combines to make Lance seem like he hasn’t ever spoken to a woman in his entire life. Upon further inspection it seems like he does not even really look at them . He treats them like space aliens, but he is Supposed to embody the heterosexual ideal of masculinity, I.e. to own his very own woman, as all heterosexual men are supposed to do, so therefore that is what he must do. His worth as a person becomes tied up in his inability to achieve this ideal and his insecurity in himself makes him unable to get any closer to achieving it.

A miserable catch-22 that ends in Lance having to abandon the whole peacock show in order to not die in the war in space, actually make friends with a girl or two, and become a better person. And for the most part this does occur in the show but even when Lance’s relative maturity is “”””rewarded””””” with him “”””””getting””””” Allura nothing he does or says even slightly communicates to the audience that he feels any actual genuine desire for her. Lance likes Allura and we know this because Lance looked dead on at the camera and said that he does, and he likes her because of course he does, he is a man and she is a woman and she is beautiful, so that what is assumed to happen
