Are you able to draw whatever image appears in your head, or do you need specific references? I’m genuinely curious because your artwork is breathtaking, and I’d love to know more about your thought process.
Hi : ) Thank you so much!
I’m unfortunately one of those people who struggle to voluntarily see images in their mind, and how a drawing turns out is often completely beyond me outside of the references I may be using, unless I’ve done meticulous planning for it. I may just have a vague idea, I mostly go off vibes lol
Usually I just get a couple references and hope for the best… It’s a bit of a struggle sometimes, since I also find it hard to trust the process because of this, but I know as long as I’ve got good references it’ll probably be fine. A reference-heavy drawing process would consist of a couple pictures for poses / lines and whatnot, and others for the colours / tone. And sometimes, my oc art could just be a study of 1 photo.
I don’t use them all the time, but I definitely do a lot more nowadays since it not only helps you learn but results in a better outcome faster, and they improve your reference-less drawing skills. I am a huge advocate for references! Even better if you make them yourself too ^__^
