kanaloa steele is old in a job where most die young, especially for his people. In an effort to separate himself from his past, both good and bad, loa has traveled to desterin to peddle his skills, knowing he wont be able to hide for long. for it's not just his own past that is coming back but the people he doesn't remember being as well.

Kanaloa, or Loa to his friends and family, was born to a family who oversaw a good sized town and the number of villages that supported it along the coast of Crirtha. The men in his family had been soldiers stretching all the way back to the Forty Seasons War and beyond so while they weren't nobility per se, they comfortably straddled both sides of the class divide. He had a fairly normal childhood attending lessons alongside the lower nobility’s children while also traveling with his father to learn how to manage the villages.
That all changed when Kanaloa hit puberty. Spending part of the day watching the blacksmith at his craft as he liked to do, an accident occurred with one of the apprentices and a red hot sword blank was flung at Loa. Without thinking, the young man reached out and caught the blade, the red hot steel sizzling in his hand without harming him.
When word of this event reached Kanaloa's father he forced Loa to repeat the feat, explaining that it was proof that he was a Berserker like him. Thus began the most brutal period in Loa's life, his father beating weapon and strength training into the young man until his body was left broken on the floor, only stopping when his species natural healing kicked in before resuming. The entire time this went on, Loa was isolated from the rest of his family under the excuse that such training was traditional for berserkers.
One night, as his father was gone to the city for some event, Loa packed his things and fled, breaking through the barricade that kept him separate from everyone else. He ran to the only place he could think of, the old blacksmith. Taking pity on Kanaloa, the blacksmith sent him away to a friend who owed him a favor as a new apprentice blacksmith.
This allowed Kanaloa to escape from his abusive situation and provided him with a path forward. Loa stayed with this friend, training in both smithing and fighting until he joined a passing mercenary company, offering both his smithing and fighting skills. Loa never stayed with a company very long, his berserker fighting style not meshing well with other units even if they wanted him for his bladesmithing abilities. Eventually, Loa saved up enough gold to set up in Destarin, both to avoid his family and the numerous enemies he had made over this life and every other one before it.

species: berserker. weaknesses: mortal, battle trance, as their anger spikes berserker's can lose the ability to distinguish between friend and foe, the previously lived lives can sometimes intrude on the berserker's modern life, senses can sometimes trigger visions of past lives, leading the berserker to end up in a place they never meant to be. strengths: resilient against wounds and sicknesses, immunity to fire/head and resitence to magic, especially mind magic, extreme strength, fast healing, retained skills from previous lives, allowing them to quickly relearn them as opposed to learning new skills from scratch. physical description: berserkers as a whole tend to look like very healthy human specimens. their strength does not necessarily conform to their physical appearance. kanaloa himself is 6 foot 6 inches with a muscular build that is covered in both tattoos and scars from innumerable battles.. additional info: berserkers as a whole are a species of warrior people that are sworn to bring honor to their patron god. even though they can be killed eventually, it can be difficult and berserkers will resurrect as long as they die bringing honor to their patron before they do. it can take up to a generation for an individual berserker to be reborn and they will lose the memories of their previous lives except in flashbacks and quickly acquired skills. berserkers tend to die young given their habit of throwing themselves into groups of enemies.
