✧ BIOGRAPHY ✧
Destarin was not the type of city where one had much room to believe they were better than others - but still the Domergues found reason to turn their noses up at the general populace. They had a business, they made a living the honorable way, not like those thieves and beggars that roamed the streets. They believed they deserved more, eating up stories of nobility and splendor in other countries and wishing one day to make the move to "where they belonged". At least, that's always how their youngest son, Alexandre, saw it. Two parents unsatisfied with where their lives took them, but too holier-than-thou to make the jump they clearly desired.
Alex always figured they had more important things to worry about - like their children, and what they were up to. The Domergues had enough money to keep their 5 children out of trouble when they inevitably got themselves up to something they shouldn't have. For the older ones, it usually resorted to tavern fights or petty thievery (the very same they always scoffed at). With Alex, it was a bit harder to keep a leash on him. For one thing, he didn't run off as soon as he could to forge his own path - why would he? He was comfortable living off his parents, having them as the safety he needed. Why earn a real living when the Domergues took care of everything, and when his fingers were nimble enough to slip into coin purses and pockets? He was comfortable living the life of a somewhat lazy house child, sleeping all afternoon and staying out til the sun came up, with too much wine flowing through his veins. After one particularly hazy night where they found him the next morning dumped in a barrel at the docks, still drunk from the night before, he had left his parents with no other choice - act like a child, and they'll treat him like one.
So at the humble age of 25, Alex was essentially grounded.
But he was his own man, so of course that didn't deter him. His friend had heard about a completely exclusive, invitation only midnight party in Crirtha, some masquerade event that was only a few hours ride. Drink and dramatics - right up Alex's alley. The two managed to sneak in through a cellar after they arrived, spending the evening dancing and engaging in merriment. He even met someone there - a young man named Harrison, who was every bit as charming and charismatic as Alex. A seemingly perfect match, where they spent the evening dancing to the upbeat music, running through corridors, finding secluded corners to be alone in. Harrison explained to him that he was an employee of the owner of this mansion, one of his assistants and informed Alex about the afterparty that was happening afterwards, if he wanted to stick around.
Obviously, Alex did, but it wasn’t what he was expecting - not the ample liquor, smoking of cigars, staying up ‘til sunrise kind of afterparty. Instead, it was a few other “employees” of the state with a few of their chosen guests. Alex couldn't understand where it was all headed until it was too late - the dark basement corridors, the row of employees with shining canines - he was in a vampire's den. Harrison's teeth had quickly sunk into neck, and before Alex knew it, he was whisked away to some cell.
For the next few days, he could feel the agony of his body changing on its own. The cell was for his own good, they said, to watch over him as he transformed. The first few days had him feeling ill - chills and coughs, fever and aches. His whole body was sore and it only got worse when all he wanted, all he craved was the metallic tang of blood on his tongue. One vial through bars was all he was given, and he yearned for it so badly he bit through the glass to drink it down. Days after that, he fell unconscious - for how long, he didn't even know. But when he woke up, crawling from a dirtied corner of bowels of the mansion, he had changed.
Alex was informed then that the owner of the mansion, a wealthy man named Edwin, had promised his vampiric "children" to build their own covens after his death - the party was his wake. Alex was one of the only few who had survived the change, and would be spending the rest of his days an immortal vampire, learning all from Harrison - who, Alex learned, was a former noble from a land he had never heard of over a hundred years old, who had initially begged Edwin for the gift so long ago. He felt betrayed and angered, yet Alex could do nothing. Harrison was his master, and the man took full advantage of that fact. Alex was his personal slave for some time, living in Harrison's new estate far from Destarin, and even from Crirtha, waiting on him hand and foot. Where Edwin had been more of a mentor, someone who believed vampirism as a true gift to be spread among others, to use the wealth of life for the better, Harrison craved only power. He had a vicious temper that could switch with the snap of fingers, and often traveled about with Alex in tow, to slaughter and trick to amass personal fortune.
Alex hadn't been back to Destarin in… he wasn't even sure how long. But one day, Harrison went on an expedition, informing Alex only to stay behind. So he did, and he waited… and waited… and waited… and Harrison never returned. He couldn't sense any death, but too long had passed and Alex was bored, hungry, and scared - being directionless for too long had done damage to his psyche that he didn't fully realize until Harrison's thoughts weren't constantly taking precedence over his. So Alex just… fled. Back to his home city, he had to know what had gone in in his absence. He hadn't aged a day physically, and felt like he hadn't mentally either. Alex still knew the way, the direction to home sweet home, ready to beg for forgiveness from his parents, promise to never screw up again.
But they had been gone. Nearly a decade and a half passed. The home was hollowed out of any Domergues, and a new family had taken their place. As for where his family went… nobody seemed where they went off to. Now he was left with two choices - stay in Destarin in the hopes to be reunited with traces of his old life, or return to Harrison's mansion, and wait for the bane of his existence to force him back into servitude. For Alex, the choice was crystal clear.
✧ HEADCANONS ✧
His master's name is Harrison and he is tied to him in every way. If Harrison tells him to do anything, his body will obey every time.
Has two older siblings, Starla and Caspian.
His turning into a vampire took a week and two days. He hated the entire thing.
Has a fear of doppelgangers. Even twins make him uneasy.
Speech pattern is in short bursts, and often quick.
Is arguably the worst liar in the entire city.
Used to participate in lots of plays and musicals in his spare time. He can play the piano and has a nice singing voice.
Has his septum piercing - it used to be silver, then he got turned into a vampire and yanked it right out of his nose. It healed, and now it's a black steel.
Has two notable scars - one is a thin line a few inches along his lower back from an accident when he was a kid - it didn't heal, even after death. The other is a Y-shape carved over his torso, like one would do when performing an autopsy.
Loves cats. Like, loves cats. He'd pick up every single one on the street if he could.
Can technically sleep - it's a very light sleep, almost like a doze that he can easily get roused out of, but it's still sleep. It has no affect on tiredness, though. It's just typically out of boredom, or if another around him is asleep.
