lia and laurel both creating alt personas to survive a cult.. i just know having someone who can understand her experience as a kid prophet in a cult probably helped laurel sm and i can see it helping lia confront more of her emotions and the things that happened there so she could help laurel.. i 100% think lias relationship with laurel as a sort of mentor brought cassie and lia closer too The mother that stepped up
why do u think michael doesnt swing back on his father
i imagine it’s like a mental block, that even though objectively he’s stronger and could fight back, being around his father makes him feel small like he’s a kid who can’t do anything but take it. being abused by his dad for years before he could do anything close to fight back fucked him up, making him feel like there’s nothing he can do but take it. when he does get to the point he could hypothetically hit back it’s so normal to him and instead he starts provoking it bc it gives him some sense of control of something that to him, is inevitable.
we see this in his main coping mechanisms from the abuse are learning emotional reading (his passive coping mechanism) and then projecting his emotions onto other things but still not technically suppressing them (usually aggressive) learning to read emotions to control when his dad beat him and then taking out his anger towards his father onto other things, fighting in class or breaking rules, trying to his families reputation. i definitely do think michael has thought about hurting his dad but in the moment of the abuse happening it’s like subconsciously he just isn’t able to do it, it could be bc he’s scared of his dad or what would happen or it’s something so subconscious that it doesn’t even cross his mind. there could also be the fear of becoming like his dad or stooping down tbh i seems like michael doesn’t have that much fear of that still but i still feel like that should be mentioned bc that could be a factor
finally i think michael doesn’t know if he hits back, what his father will do. hitting him back doesn’t mean he’ll stop the abuse, his father is the bread winner, he’s clearly very influential and could leave michael broke, make it hard for him to ever find a good job bc of his connections and could even find a way to out michael in prison for his actions considering michael already has a well documented past of physical violence from his past schools. his father could escalate things beyond just physical strength. i don’t think michael believes his father could ever stop being physically abusive, his father will always be evil no matter what so even if best case scenario, michael fights back and his dad stops abusing him. his father will move on to a different target which i don’t think is something michael ever wants to risk.

yeah i definitely do believe they love eachother, especially michael loving lia while im not the biggest michaelia shipper i do think their dynamic and what makes their relationship work is really interesting. both michael and lia are people who hide their true feelings a lot and bc of the others naturals gifts being lie detector and emotion reader it leaves both of them vulnerable in a way they aren’t ever really with anyone else which leads them to being assholes to eachother bc they’re uncomfortable with the concept of confronting their emotions and problems lmao
the reason their relationship is so tumultuous and has these high ups and very low downs is because they can’t fully control what they hide from the other, which leads them to lashing out in various ways bc they don’t know like being so vulnerable and open to someone. so when either of them are feeling that way they start ‘acting out’ to turn their relationship off and they can be ‘distant’ from the other so they can gain some of that sense of security again.
and then for fun reasons they’re also pretty similar like they like things like parties, breaking the rules, causing trouble which make them gravitate to the other since dean sloane and cassie are either goody two shoes or aren’t the best at causing havoc. and michael being rich bonus points for lia im sure
ironically enough that also makes them eachother safety nets because they do take eachother back. even if they’re scared of being vulnerable they know that they can be cruel and mean but still won’t lose that relationship. it’s not healthy but lia and michael don’t exactly have good concept of healthy relationships. they’ve seen eachother at their worse, been pretty horrible to eachother but both still love eachother despite that. which is another big reason i think they love eachother, so many people have not loved them bc of their flaws or their love hinged on not expressing those flaws and the fact that they both care and love eachother despite it and even because of it is comforting for them. both their concepts of love and what a relationship is is fucked up! i can see michael’s specifically being messed up bc his main examples, his parents seem to be extremely distant and when they aren’t they’re probably arguing.
i think they got back together in all bc it honestly seems like they tend to get back together when one of them is confronted with something from their past they can’t repress or ignore for any longer. this relationship like i mentioned earlier is a safety net, being in the relationship and dating is a distraction whatever they’re actually trying to ignore or a outlet, a way to shift their negative feelings to be about the relationship. they’re eachother biggest enablers lowkey
i’m not surprised they’re still on and off in twelve bc atp the issue isn’t that, “oh does the other love me”, it’s more neither of them have done enough therapy to be in a committing relationship and be willingly vulnerable so they’re sticking to what they’re used to and what feels safe which is dating when it’s fun and breaking up when it gets too vulnerable hashtag Get michael and lia therapy 2026. i also do think in twelve specifically the long distance was a factor
anyway they’re able to do all this bullshit bc they do love each other and have a deep understanding of the other bc they’re very similar which. makes them a good pair? bc they’re a bad pair? does that make sense

i don’t think they’d ever have a traditional relationship or even want one… maybe they’d get married on a whim and then get divorced to say they’re eachother ex wife and ex husband and to piss of michael’s dad since lia got half of his assets in the divorce bc they didn’t sign a pre nup. they’d find that fun i think
