[ ❀ 🍓 These Precious Days With Yσυ ]
A cry of anguish followed by a growl of frustration sounded from the illuminated kitchenette of a familiar, otherwise darkened apartment. Hovering in front of the glowing refrigerator with balled fists at his side, the petite spirit called Orion blanched at the goop of raw eggs splattered on the tile. He could feel his heart sinking into the pit of his stomach as he recalled his earlier intentions and the accident that resulted in what was now just another mess he had made to burden his new friend.
And it wasn’t the only mess. The thing that made tea was screaming at him and there was smoke curling suspiciously out of the toaster. His delicate nose could detect the smell of something burning on the stove…
What was in the pan again…? Why did it smell so foul?
"Oh, no! Not that!” Orion sped toward the stove and peered inside the pan. Whatever wasn’t charred beyond all edible means was sizzling furiously and spitting hot oil all over the place. Acting quickly, the spirit grabbed the pan by the handle and shoved it toward the back area of the stove. It was no later than after switching off the heat that he was forced to twist and tumble out of the way in time to avoid a flaming piece of toast that had come flying out of the toaster toward him.
Mouth agape in disbelief, Orion watched it slap against the wall and knock the kitchen analog clock down with it. He stretched his arms out, his voice a silent yell as he dove forward to grab it before it could fall to the ground. The next moment found him hovering in the center of the food splattered room, his arms wrapped around the only thing he had successfully managed to preserve in his failed culinary endeavors.
Mortified, Orion set the clock on the counter and placed his hands over his face. What had he done? This was the place where she lived and now it was ruined! His intentions had been honest (he just wanted to do something nice for her!) but really, he should have known better than to try to touch anything; to pick anything up…
The only sound to be heard was a muffled ticking of the clock and the thing which made the tea that continued to shriek at him mercilessly from somewhere in the background.
…Eventually, though, it all became silent.
And then, he was brought back to reality by the sound of her cell phone.
Orion frantically whipped his head at every angle to take in his surroundings. So surprised was he, the spirit nearly lost his balance in his usual, levitated sitting position. It took him a few seconds to regain his composure.
“Ah…I get it.” He understood now. At some point he must have been—if one could call such a terrifying experience as that—daydreaming. It didn’t happen very often, but when his friend was sleeping or did not require his assistance, his mind would sometimes wander. Sometimes it would last for as little as a few seconds. Other times—like this—it would last for hours. Usually, they would be about things like making pastries or the humans he had become familiar with in various worlds. This…daydreaming was the closest thing to sleeping that Orion had experienced since becoming attached to a human conscious.
Dreams, as far as he knew, usually manifested when there was something constantly at the back of one’s mind. Considering this, it made sense for him to be fantasizing about little things like Meido no Hitsuji or the humans he frequently saw, but…
Why would he be dreaming about making breakfast for her? Perhaps it was because he still felt quite guilty for the situation he had placed her in. While it affected them both, she was the one who was suffering. He was a spirit, but for all the good it did him, he was hardly helpful to her when she needed it.
If only he could do something for her. If he could do something, just once…
Turning toward the balcony with a glum look, Orion cast a sidelong glance at the girl sleeping peacefully in her bed. The ringtone on her phone sounded once more, indicating she had received another new message. She would wake up soon, but as far as he knew, she had the day off. Maybe she would meet up with Sawa or the others. It probably wasn’t a good idea, though. Ukyo had been giving them warnings regarding dangerous areas all week…
"Ah…" Orion’s eyes lit up almost imperceptibly. "That’s it!" Gliding over to her bed, Orion called out to his friend. "Um…please wake up! Unless you want to sleep in…" he trailed off, unsure of how she planned to spend the first part of her morning. "Um…but, I think you have a new text message."
