Inner Demons
Though the arena provided little light at the best of times when Kanter woke he knew it had to be early still. Murky shadows dominated the landscape and lurked in between the cluttered buildings of the circus. Anders was still asleep and Kanter watched her chest rise and fall gently in the half-light. How easy it would be to end her life now. A quick snap of the neck, a stab in the heart, even something so simple as holding her mouth and nose shut. Given the circumstances he should and could do it, and yet there was something he'd never experienced before. Restraint.
Somehow this girl had wormed herself into his head in a way that left her immune to his bloodlust. He gently brushed a lock of matted brown hair out of her face and tucked it behind her ear taking care not to wake her. Anders had already proven herself a fierce competitor and would make a worthy opponent but Kanter would cross that bridge when he came to it. But now he had work to do and Anders needed her rest after the fight with Scarlett. "I'll be back, I'm going to get some... fresh air." He whispered to the still slumbering Anders.
With that he gathered up his things and made his way to the edge of the roof. Wrapping his legs around the pole he'd used to climb up he eased his way back down to the ground. He opened up a pack of moon burst and gnawed on one to ease the dull aches of hunger. It wasn't real food but it was the best he had and would have to make do. He flushed it down with a mouthful of water and began to wander through the darkness.
