Turns out I just found out that another webtoon I used to follow between 2019 and 2021 got a k-drama adaptation last year, and I'm conflicted because reading a bit about it looks like they changed so much stuff and it looks like they turned it into another office romcom involving a middle-class woman and a chaebyeol...! and the ML wasn't a chaebyeol in the first place in the webtoon iirc? ... not to mention that they changed the setting to "the present day" instead of it developing in the late 2000s, making the encounter between the characters NOT between 4 years, but APPARENTLY? SIXTEEN YEARS and I'm incredibly pissed off because it's kinda like a "cliché" as well (the "oh, turns off we did meet when we were young" cliché), lmao.

And, like... MAN, the webtoon doesn't have a TL. It didn't have a fan one, and I suppose the actual premise wasn't interesting for the western WEBTOON's offices (reading a bit in the decription of a korean wiki... it's kiiiiiind of messy) so they passed it off... I was actually looking around in MU, because I was remembering the name (and I liked the ML) of the series... but the entry is all wrong as well, as the category tags are FOR THE DRAMA, and knowing they changed a lot for the adaptation, and ;A;

And I know I cannot judge the drama a LOT since I haven't actually seen it... (and I'm kind of dying to watch it... but I don't know who actually got it... and Viki is kind of out of the question for me atm) but, like... you have to get me. I understand changing things here and there to make it more appealing to a general public (sometimes the thing is not well written, or not well paced, and they have to make it for a 12 or 16 episode drama), and I appreciate experimentation (I always bring out The Sound of Magic being adapted into a drama musical, because I don't think the series would have been adapted into other way due to the visuals of the webtoon -my reminder that I need to get the physical books, asap)... but then you have stuff with what happened with See you in my 19th Life, that the webtoon had nice characterization twists of clichés... to make them clichéd as possible in the drama.

I'm not saying it should have been a 1:1 adaptation, and with live action drama it's kinda impossible due to time restraints and such... but also, like... I liked how the romance in this specific series developed between two MMORPG players in the 2000s, there is a bit of an age gap, there's smth about an embarrassing teenage years romance in a time where the internet was LIKE THAT, and them finding each other out again, a few years later, and like... let the ML be a little pathetic middle-class young man, lmao, who hasn't get over his first love crush... adding a layer of "turn them into a chaebyeol in his adult years" kind of defeats the purpose... when there are other MANY dramas (ESPECIALLY FROM LAST YEAR! 2025!) with similar MLs (I kinda of think of maybe heirs from an enterprise and actual protegeés from ACTUAL rich ppl in their enterprises)... AND THEY ARE ALSO OFFICE ROMCOMS!

(Researching a bit, looks like the drama adaptation did its own twists to some clichés like, my ML here is not that "pathetic", but a chaebyol that happens to be an otaku... is this the same webtoon character, though???, but I might be repeating myself that some chaebyeol characters I have seen in romcoms aren't as "authoritarian or cold" as the stereotype... but then again, why turning this into an office romcom in the first place is beyond my comprehension...? "loosely adapted" might be more appropiate here than "adaptation")

I'm pissed off, lmao.

recent example. lady at my careers appointment had a post-it with her name on it stuck to the monitor, so i introduced myself by saying "hello, i'm eliot! you must be [name], it's nice to meet you!" and she stared at me as if i was the stupidest person alive and said icily, "yeah, i'm [name]. congratulations, you can read."

in bygone times this would have reduced me to a sort of quivering blancmange. thankfully i am now in a place where i was able to pull back, calmly evaluate this interaction, and say to myself "this woman should probably not be working in a customer-facing job"

I still find it amusing how when big publisher licenses stuff here, and many people are all "no one asked for this :V" and I'm like, "it costs you a couple of clicks to find out what this series is about" and "ffs, explore a little out of your mainstream comfort zone series".

Mostly because then, eventually ppl would not buy a thing. But if you do, maybe that thing COULD open the doors for similar, or maybe other series from the same genre and/or demographic.

(Was reading comments in MangaUpdates for a Square-Enix title that, in premise, sounds similar to Assassination Classroom -which was published here almost a decade ago- and Iruma-kun -to be on sale just around the corner-... but just because I liked Ankyou and I don't have interest for Iruma-kun and its longetivity scares me, that doesn't mean I would buy the Squeenix one... also still ongoing, and I have too much in my side, lol)

And I know that manga collecting is becoming such a luxury these days, but... I mean.

I know I'm the kind of "I will wait and see", because there's too much and I still want to collect some older stuff and the stuff that I want is still in limbo hell because big publisher seems to pick the popular series and that maybe are having anime adaptations at the moment.

Instead of complaining for the nth Naruto novel (since, let's be real, Naruto is a money machine... same with OP these days) getting licensed, you could save yourself of the vitriol in your comments?

Look, I'm not going to defend the big publisher here. I STILL want competition so this wouldn't be stuck with big publisher, imprint from huge international literature publisher conglomerate, local one that has issues with its periodicity, new small one that might be picking niche stuff, international subsidiaries of european? companies and so and so.

And there's plenty of stuff I WISH I could read in physical in Spanish, because the imports (both from the US and Spain) are expensive af due to import taxes and such :'3 (and some of the stuff I want are still ongoing! OR ARE FUCKING LONG! SO!!!!)

I'm half expecting that my blood work exams are going to be a little off because hormones, because I'm pretty sure my current anxious/maybe depressive self is not exactly in good terms with the rest of my body.

Expecting the appointment after August's be of three months, instead of six, precisely because of that.

Expecting my doctor asking why I haven't seen a psychiatrist after already been suggested about them in the first place, around a year or so ago (to fix sleep issues, mostly, but...)

Is tumblr a/b testing in putting a big Premium ad thing inviting you to get it in the space* the ads are usually put in the side of the dashboard?

(Big asterisk since I use ubo and adblockers since god knows when, and I'm ignoring where are they usually putting them, besides the sponsored posts). Because I have this in another blog's dashboard... but not this specific one...

Oh, I just found out that it does appear here as well...

HOWEVER, I find it curious that it appears as soon as a "mature content" -or "potentially mature content"- banner-ed post does, though? so I suppose that might be triggering th big ad space for that... in a "what's the point, if Premium doesn't even make any difference regards to these banners???"

(The same goes for posts with the older red "somewhere in this reblog chain has sexual content", btw! It didn't appear in the dashboard view of my blog, UP until a post like that came through :))) what's going on, tumblr, and what does this mean? :)))) )

I had a quite interesting dream, that I wish would be real... but I suppose the o**ity situation brainworms (the whole "cool looking but not substance" vaporware thing, iykyk) kinda infected my conscience because I imagined a similar thing in my head while sleeping, and man... if only.

It was a "cool looking, but also had substance" whimsical rpg game that somehow was beautiful looking in its sprite art (all 2D), and the story it had was inclining a little bit more in the magical but horror side of things and I thought it was cool, because it was like investigating a... mystery situation? which involved witches and the protagonist(s) had magic of their own, and you would explore some things that explained others (think of it like OFF, maybe? in the "lore" department), it also had some time travel mechanic? that would put you in the role of the past, even though it was to give some context of the events occurred in the present and so and so.

In the dream, for reasons I don't understand (due to dreams being like that), I was playing a demo? and somehow found out that there was already ANOTHER demo thing (or pre-release) thing, and I was told that the version I had was a little more advanced stuff that actually wasn't accessible yet in the pre-release thing or smth, hence the content I had was a little more "forward" in stuff about the plot or something. And, you know what? Cool game or smth like that, mind. Shame I don't think I can make it... but cool to think about, I feel.
