I think it's important that Oda included this interaction between Sanji and Brook. With his motivation typically hidden beneath a few dozen layers of machismo, it's easy to misconstrue why Sanji acts the way he does. Also important is this little bit self-deprecation by Sanji. It's a rare moment of vulnerability in a character that hides his major issues of self worth deeper than someone like Usopp.
