I don't think that Bruno gave Peia powers to cure her cancer, at least not originally. Peia had powers in the flashback, and (correct me if I'm wrong), that appeared to be before they were married or had Matteo, which would make it roughly 20 years ago (though neither actor looked much younger, but that's another issue). Could she really have been living with cancer that long? Bruno said that a disproportionate amount of people in Hobbs Bay get cancer, so I suspect Peia got it from whatever gave it to everyone else.

I completely forgot about that! I dont think it would be possible for her to have Mateo while having cancer because typically chemotherapy makes you infertile (I’m not a medical professional, dont quote me on that i heard it from a couple places) I can see where your coming from with the whole Peia getting cancer from wherever everyone else in Hobbs Bay got it, I think that could open up more of a storyline in the show of why Bruno is trying to cure cancer. I can imagine that Peia got cancer while her and Bruno were helping out people of Hobbs Bay and thats where he started trying to cure cancer, not just for Peia but for his community as well
