Some thoughts on #Karamel and the arc of Supergirl
As life moves forward and space grows since the finale aired, I think I can finally put my frustrations into words. No matter which side of the coin you sit on, I think we can all agree that we wanted Kara happy, whether you thought that would be with Mon-el or Lena. Now I have no issues with tv shows that keep the focus away from just romantic pairings, but the writers clearly created a version of Kara that wanted someone to share her life with. From James in season one, to Mon-el in season 2 and three, or even Will in season 5, the show put its focus on balancing Supergirl and Kara, Supergirl fighting crime and being hero, combined with Kara on the other side of the coin, searching for companionship from friends, family, and romantic partners. So I guess what I am trying to say is that I ended the show sad for Kara because we never got to see a version of her that found this simple thing that her powers could never solve, love. I will be the first to admit, I will forever believe that Mon-el was that person for Kara, she even said out loud that she could be her truest self around him, but even if the show ended in a flash forward of her with some person we have never even seen on the show, we could have at least found comfort in her success in finding what she clearly wanted. Showing women that they cannot have a successful career and personal life is not forward thinking, it is the opposite.
