maverick’s hand hadn’t moved from it’s spot on her waist until she nearly sprinted out of the house, leaving him a bit more speechless than usual. avery was still pretty stunned by mav’s outburst, but took jasmines hand in his own, mumbling a quick thank you to kara’s parents, before nearly pushing maverick out the door. once outside, maverick spoke up again, directing his words to his friends, “give us - one - one second. we’ll - be right - there.” with that, he gently put his hand on kara’s arm, silently nodding to question if he could talk to her for a moment. “that -” he started, catching himself on his words and pausing to give his brain a moment to catch up, “that - didn’t - uh - feel fake.” his words were hushed, making sure to keep quiet in the off chance avery and jasmine could hear him.
kara made her way down the steps, stopping at the bottom as she waited for the other three to catch up to her. with a stern nod she turned towards mav, arms wrapping around herself. part of her wanted to scoff, pass it off as just really good acting; a move to get both his friends and her mother off their backs about both of their personal lives. but the other part of her, the part that seemed to be winning, didn’t want to deny it. she glanced over at avery and jasmine before turning her eyes back to mav. “i’m sorry if that was... overstepping, or whatever. if it made you uncomfortable. But I’m also not sorry that I did it.” she said, shrugging her shoulders. “because you - no one has ever defended me like that to my mom. Not even my dad. it didn’t feel fake because for me, it wasn’t. so if - if you want to stop this... whatever, we can.”
mavrutherford:
maverick didn’t regret his words for even a single second, he was tired of not only hearing her mother degrade her, but tired of hearing the stories about it. despite the fake start of their relationship, he cared deeply for her. maybe a little more than he’d care to admit. he was about to speak up once more to apologize to kara for his outburst, but before he knew it he was being turned around, and kara’s lips were pressed to his. the shock of the action stunned him for a moment, hesitating before one of his hands moved to her waist, returning the kiss. he pulled away after a moment, his brows furrowing at her, silently questioning her actions and making a mental note to verbally do the same later. “we - should go,” he offered, speaking to only his friends.
when her actions finally caught up to her, kara wasn’t sure of mavericks reaction. she knew deep down she was starting to feel something more for him, not really knowing how to name that until that moment. the problem was, with out their little ‘secret’ was laid out, and his reaction to her up and kissing him out of no where, she wasn’t sure what to make of it. pretty certain she had just messed it up, she schooled her features as she nodded her head, glancing at her parents before turning around. “yeah. let’s go.” she muttered, grabbing her bag and hightailing it out of there, hoping to reign in her emotions before she ruined whatever was left between them.
mavrutherford:
avery laughed at jasmine’s question, “i don’t know, maybe the fact that half the time you’re stealing all my clothes. i’m left in shambles, i blame you.” he teased. “th -” maverick started, attempting to get a simple word out. sometimes this would happen, he would try to get something out, but his brain would so rudely cut him off to yell that it wasn’t finished processing yet, and his ability to speak would be hindered. mav managed to finish the word just before her mother began talking, a simple “thanks,” falling from his lips, his attention now turning to kara’s mother. the words that were spewing from her mouth enraged maverick, more so today more than likely due to his own stress and his own mother. but regardless, the anger was rising pretty rapidly. he hesitated, waiting to see if kara was going to say something herself, but as soon as her mother continued, maverick broke. “with - with all due respect, ma’am. i think she looks stunning, and even then, my opinion is a fraction of hers, and yours is even less than mine. clearly, you know nothing about your own daughter, or you would know she doesn’t do anything she doesn’t want to. so if she didn’t like the dress, why in the hell would she buy it, let alone wear it.” maverick started, the tone in his voice something no one has ever heard before, never mind the lack of stutter, “you really have no right to tell her what she can and can’t do, or wear, with her own body. no one has the right to do that except for her. since - you know. it’s her body. i think i can speak for all of us when i say we love what she’s wearing, and we all think she looks great, anyone that says otherwise is clearly blind.”
kara had never had anyone defend her, or her choices, to her mother so vehemently. Sure, her dad had tried once or twice, but it always ended in a deadly silence and in someway her father apologizing to her mother. But the way Maverick had taken charge, his voice and words clear as day as if this was something that was weighing on his mind for a while... it made karas eyes water. Not only has no one ever called her stunning before, no one had ever made it a point to step up to her mother. Her body moved before she could register it, hands reaching out to turn maverick towards her, leaning forward and kissing him.
mavrutherford:
avery walked into the house first, noticing the slight hesitation maverick was having about entering. “hey, you work where i do for a day and you’ll learn that no matter what you do, your clothes are gonna get ruined. i ain’t got shit to say about this dude over here, though,” avery laughed as he came back at her comment, patting mavericks shoulder. mav was busy zoning out at things around kara’s house, but the hit to his shoulder brought him back to reality. looking up, maverick nearly choked just seeing the slight bit of kara that he could. she looked stunning. breathtaking, even, seeing as the male could barely breathe, “i - i do - my best -” he managed, more strained than usual. avery had already made his way to jasmine, hooking his arms around her waist immediately and letting himself wander into his own world as he admired her beauty for probably the 100th time today. “you - uh - you look - b - beautiful.” maverick complimented, leaning forward to place a gentle kiss to kara’s cheek - for show, of course.
kara rolled her eyes at avery as jasmine retorted back. “and what’s your excuse for when you’re not at the shop?” jasmine joked, walking closer to avery as kara averted her gaze to mav. His reaction made the smirk came back to her face, walking down the last few of the steps before stopping in front of mav. “yeah? thanks. you don’t look bad yourself. you clean up... nice.” she said, her voice softer than she ever though it could be, the smirk turning into a smile as his lips touched her cheek. though the smile soon fell off her lips and she let out a deep sigh as she heard her mother join her father. “ you are not going to prom looking like that, in a barely there piece of fabric.” kara refrained from rolling her eyes, stepping back from mav to turn towards her mother. “you really don’t get a say...” she trailed off, slightly enjoying the fire in her mothers eyes. “yes i do young lady. you think you’re so slick, dressing in a skimpy outfit and thinking anyone would let you get away with it? you might not care what others think, or care about yourself, but we do.”
mavrutherford:
@karamakin
prom. a foreign concept for maverick. though he was forced into going the previous year by his mother, this year seemed to be a bit different. still slightly forced, but at least a tiny sliver of him was kind of excited. he finally had friends, and well - kind of a girlfriend. the term being used loosely, of course. mav had gotten ready at his house with avery, his mother, of course, hovering over the both of them and shoving her opinions in both their faces any chance she got. this had already gotten maverick pretty annoyed, but per usual, he stuffed it down and moved on.
the boys got ready fairly quickly, and headed over to kara’s house as soon as they were given the okay to. thankfully, it wasn’t far at all, only a few steps down the block, and before mav knew it, his fist was knocking at the door. he tried to push the anxiety he was feeling down, hoping that once they got away from their parents and he was able to drink from the flask avery promised, everything would be alright.
a year ago, kara would have laughed in her mothers face when she tried to get her to go to prom. now, though she wouldn’t admit it to anyone (maybe to mav, in secret) she was actually slightly excited to go. getting ready with jasmine, someone she hadn’t thought she’d get along with but was actually happy to, was a feat in itself. no matter how much whining she did she was forced to wear a dress and heels instead of the jeans and t-shirt she had been dying to wear instead.
her dress would probably be deemed inappropriate for prom but at that point, she didn’t really care. in the back of her mind though, the thought of seeing mavericks response made her giddy as she finished slipping her heels on as she heard the door open below. With an actual elated smile towards jasmine she opened her bedroom door, leading the other girl out and down the stairs. “Well, don’t you two clean up nice. For once.” she smirked, hearing jasmine snicker behind her.
mavrutherford:
“o - offer a trade? i - i like the - red o - one.”
Depends. Better a good one, cause this one is soft.
mavrutherford:
“w - was it my - my red one?”
And if it is? What are you going to do about it?
averyjensen:
“i feel like that’s just the boyfriend thing to do - let your girl steal your shit and pretend you don’t notice. jas probably has half my wardrobe, i mean, which isn’t a lot, to be fair, but she’s got it.”
You say pretend as if the female population aren’t aware of how badly the male population pays attention what their girlfriends do. Jas is a smart woman.
finleyxcallahan:
“we always know, you guys just always manage to look so much better in them that we never say anything, or well sometimes we don’t notice but that’s mostly just me.”
Well, they do say that men think with their dicks ninety percent of the time. So I wouldn’t be surprised you can’t see that your clothes are missing.
I ‘accidentally’ stole my... ahem, boyfriends, hoodie yesterday and he still doesn’t realize it.
