Rain forced Indian players to stay indoors and miss the practice session at Kolkata. However, Indian team still went out and made the most of their time off with a game of footy on the sidelines. In the second ODI of the 5 match series between India and Australia at the Eden Gardens, there was an interesting moment involving Pat Cummins. India won the toss and Kohli decided to bat first on a double paced wicket. India went in with the same team that won the first match, while Australia brought in Agar and Richardson for Faulkner and Zampa. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday ousted Karnataka all-rounder K Gowtham from the India A squad, which is scheduled to play against New Zealand on October 17 and 19 in Mumbai. Now, leg-spinner Karn Sharma will play in place of Gowtham. Gowtham skipped a Duleep Trophy game citing reasons of illness, before going on to feature in a game in the Karnataka Premier League, and then he went to participate in the KPL game. Former Indian captain and Commentator, Sunil Gavaskar, will continue to hold his post as the chairman of his sports management company, Professional Management Group (PMG), despite the company has decided to shut down its player management wing. Earlier this month, PMG has decided to shut down their player management wing, which had landed him in conflict-of-interest trouble with the BCCI, as Gavaskar is associated with Indian Cricket Board as a commentator. PMG handled three Indian players; including Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, and Sarfraz Khan, as well as much-admired hockey star Sardar Singh. Now, they all are set to find other sports management firms after their contract terminated with PMG. Recently, BCCI asked Gavaskar to choose between commentary and player-management business, and he chooses to go with Indian Cricket Board. PMG is the first Sports management company co-founded by Sunil Gavaskar in 1985. England’s Test skipper Joe Root has revealed his desire to participate in all formats of the game by ruling out the fatigue factor. It has been learnt that England selectors wanted to rest Root for the one-day international campaign against West Indies given that the all-important Ashes series is scheduled to commence from November 23 Down Under. After being appointed as a Test captain in June, Root led England to successive series victories at home. Following the 3-1 series triumph over the Proteas, England have also secured a 2-1 Test series victory over the West Indies. "I feel good…. We had a chat before the series and said 'do I feel like I can play?'," said Root, who returns to the ranks in white-ball (limited-overs) internationals, with Eoin Morgan captaining England. Every time I feel fit and that I can deliver at my best I'll go out and play for England," Root quoted according to AFP. "I love the opportunity we get every time we put on the shirt. It's such a proud feeling and I've never lost that from the start," he further added. "The best thing about Jonny is that he can bat anywhere in the top six," said Root. "He has a great game, a brilliant power game where he can be destructive at the backend or the Powerplay up front and he also rotates the strike very well," he concluded.

The iconic Wankhede Stadium all set to get a new name, as the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is currently assessing proposals from three firms, including IMG-Reliance, DDB Mudra, and Baseline, for selling the naming rights of Stadium for the duration of five years. This is not the very first time when MCA has invited proposals for the rebranding of the Wankhede Stadium, which is named after former BCCI and MCA president SK Wankhede. Before this, DDB Mudra had contacted to MCA for the naming rights in 2016, but a deal didn't turn up at that time. The rights will be sold for a 5-year span and it should help in raking in money to promote the game at the grassroots level." He further added, "We will have a transparent bidding process to hand over the right. Things didn’t fall in place when Mudra proposed using their name as prefix or suffix, but this time round we are confident of going ahead and getting the deal finalised with one of the corporates after looking into the financial viability and other areas.” Meanwhile, MCA secretary PV Shetty confirmed according to Sportskeeda that the name of the sponsor will either be used as a suffix or a prefix to the original name - Wankhede. The stadium’s original name will be retained while the sponsor’s name will be added as a prefix or suffix. The discussions are in the initial stages and nothing has been finalized.” The Secretary also revealed that the MCA is expecting a bid of around Rs 100 crore, saying, “Through the deal, the MCA is expecting a sum to the tune of Rs 100 crore over the course of five years.” According to reports in India Today, DDB Mudra ready to invest a near sum of Rs 45 crore per year, while IMG-R are ready to invest Rs 12-15 crore and Baseline Rs 5-6 crore per annum. It is also learned that the meeting regarding this matter will be held within 10 days and during this, the decision will be taken by the MCA.
