The Craft Central

Let us all stand and thank this amazing scribbler, Alexis Ventura, for granting every pinoy artists’ wish. Opening an art supply and craft store.

The Craft Central opened their first flagship store at Greenbelt 5. Filled with wonderful crafts, postcards, stickers, and of course art supplies.

I got myself a set of fine brushes (size 0, 00, and 000) and a postcard made by one of my favorite artists Pat Abella!

The place is cozy, young and instagramable! I also heard that you can also conduct workshops there so.. hmm

Crafters, artists, and everyone who wanted to enter this artsy field, the store is perfect for -not only to hoard art supplies but to be inspired with a lot crafts created by the most passionate and creative Filipino artists. I got chocolate too!

The Art of Pat Abella

It was only last year when the 20 year old student/illustrator,  Pat Abella, tried watercolor and man- his works looks so dreamy

“Back then, I hated watercolor because of its sort of “touch move” usage. With watercolor, once you applied paint, you can no longer erase it, the only thing that you could do is to minimize the color intensity or change the flow of the painting.” 

Getting out of his comfort zone gave the artist a lot opportunities, some even made it to the glossiest pages of a magazine sold in major cities around the globe

INSPIRATIONS

           “Any person who sees my works would definitely know who my inspiration is, it’s Valerie Chua. I get endowed every time I see her works! I really love her works that I went to all her shows, whether it’s a solo or group! But my greatest inspiration would definitely be Ross Jaylo. I first came across a painting of his at Art Fair Philippines 2014, where I literally stood in front of his painting Challenging Gravityfor more than an hour. Same thing happened in Art Fair 2015, 2016 and in his solo show in West Gallery. There’s this feeling whenever you see his works that will make you stand there and stare at it leaving you the same feeling when you get home. I want to achieve that someday.”

ADVICE

For all the amateur artists, remember that art is subjective. Never compare yours with others. Each one of us has our own trademark, our own style. Everyone has their own time, just practice!

Pokemon Fever

Art Hohol Part 2

Finally after months of planning, the second Art Hohol happened! (missing Vin though) 

The creative industry is exciting and stressful! Unwinding (and by ‘unwinding’, I mean- Painting inside a vegan cafe surrounded by talented artists) is a requirement to survive this fast-paced field. 

It doesn’t have to be inside this vegan cafe, but come on! the place is artistic AF!

The letterer and author (naks AUTHOR!) Abbey Sy showed us her sketchpad filled with beautiful letters and architectures. 

My name never looked so beautiful and artsy since this post-card she made on-the-spot.

The daydreaming, earth loving watercolor artist, Jamie Catt’s sketchbook made me question myself -’bat di ko napupuno ang sketchbook ko like hers’.  

Jamie will be leaving the country to study Arts abroad. I’m inggit with her sketchbook, now this?! Goodluck Jamie!

My entry? KARVICatures!

Drawing alone is already satisfying and calming, but inviting a couple more artists is really something people in the industry should try.
